What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the magical and breathtaking beauty of the Ice Castles, especially when illuminated at night. The interactive elements like ice slides and tubing are a hit with families. However, some reviews mention concerns about slippery pathways, inconsistent staff engagement, and potential overcrowding during peak times.
"First time here and we absolutely loved it! We were hesitant on doing it at night (with the cold weather) but it was better than we expected. The lights were amazing and the kids loved every corner. We spent about an hour here just taking photos and drinking hot chocolate. The kids slide was really fun too. Next time we will look into the sleigh ride. We went at 8pm on a Wednesday and it was very calm. We were really able to enjoy all of the views. Staff were very friendly and welcoming."

"The Ice Castle is a mesmerizing destination that captivates both kids and adults alike. The intricate ice sculptures and glowing lights create a magical ambiance that feels straight out of a winter fairy tale. A highlight is the slides, designed to entertain visitors of all ages—fun for children and a delightful touch for adults wanting to embrace their inner child.
To enhance the experience, I recommend trying the 10-15 minute sled ride, available for $25. While it’s not particularly adventurous or thrilling, it offers a pleasant and family-friendly activity, perfect for creating cherished memories with kids.
Overall, the Ice Castle is a fantastic outing for families, blending awe-inspiring visuals with fun activities that everyone can enjoy. Highly recommended for a unique winter adventure!"

"Beautiful work and it’s different each year! Stay as long as you’d like for the day (they open at 4pm EST and be mindful of the crowds).
Tubing, ice slides, the castle is multi level, has all kinds of beautiful photo spots, ice thrones as well as sculptures, & they have some food trucks and fit pits to warm up around. There’s also a cool sleigh ride pulled by Belgian horses (beautiful gentle giants!) for an additional charge.
Been here a couple of years and it’s always a great time. Busier than you’d expect, but absolutely worth the experience!"

The Art of Ice Construction
During construction, artists carefully sculpt and shape the ice, often incorporating LED lights that are embedded within the ice itself. These lights are programmed to create a mesmerizing glow, transforming the castles into a vibrant spectacle after dark. The dedication and skill involved in creating these ephemeral structures are a testament to the creativity and hard work of the Ice Castles team.
Visitors often remark on how the castles differ each year, showcasing new designs and features. This constant evolution ensures that even returning visitors will find something new and exciting to discover, making each visit a unique experience. The sheer scale and beauty of these frozen creations are a major draw for tourists seeking a magical winter adventure.
Experiencing the Magic: Activities and Attractions
For a more serene experience, consider the sleigh ride, pulled by majestic Belgian horses. While an additional cost, it offers a charming perspective of the surrounding winter scenery and the grandeur of the ice structures. The light show walk-through is another highlight, offering a peaceful and whimsical journey through illuminated ice formations, often described as a magical and surprising element not always advertised.
Visitors are encouraged to explore at their own pace, taking in the numerous ice sculptures, frozen thrones, and glowing tunnels. The opportunity to capture stunning photographs is abundant, making it a popular spot for couples celebrating occasions like Valentine's Day. Remember to check the website for any additional activities or special features available during your visit.
Navigating the Ice: Safety and Comfort
Given the outdoor nature of the attraction, dressing in warm layers is crucial. Temperatures can be significantly colder within the ice structures. Hats, gloves, and scarves are essential. While fire pits are available to warm up, they can get crowded. Hot beverages like hot chocolate are sold on-site, providing a welcome respite from the cold.
Some reviews mention that while most staff are friendly, there can be instances of unengaged or rude attendants, particularly in activity areas like snow tubing. It's also worth noting that some visitors have observed children damaging the ice structures and a lack of staff intervention, which can detract from the experience. Being prepared with appropriate gear and maintaining awareness of your surroundings will help ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.
