Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the stunning beauty of Georgiana Falls and the refreshing swimming holes. The hike is considered moderately challenging with rewarding views, though the extension to Harvard Falls is significantly steeper. Parking is a common complaint due to its limited capacity.

"Loved the hike! Georgina is the best of the falls but there is one more above and several below."

Greg Arason

"❄️Highly recommended! Super snowshoeing experience! Narrow but only moderately difficult until the end where it’s a bit steep.

Not much parking (3-4 spots) but okay."

Josh -

"3.44 miles, 847 ft ascent. Most of the trail is well marked with red markers. Toward the top the trail it becomes a little unclear. We stopped and turned around, maybe with 400 ft left as the trail seemed to be nonexistent, or maybe the maps we were using were older and it has been shortened. Very nice overall, views towards the top with several waterfalls. One time thing for us but glad we did it."

The Hike to Georgiana Falls

The trail to Georgiana Falls is a popular moderate hike in the White Mountains, approximately 3.44 miles roundtrip with around 847 feet of elevation gain. Most of the path is marked with red blazes, guiding hikers through wooded terrain. While the initial part of the trail is manageable, it becomes progressively steeper as you approach the falls, requiring a decent level of fitness. InstagramReddit

Many visitors enjoy the main Georgiana Falls for its scenic beauty and the inviting swimming holes at its base. However, for those seeking a more adventurous experience, the trail continues to Harvard Falls. This extension is significantly more challenging, involving steeper ascents and potentially less clear trail markings near the summit. The reward is the powerful, awe-inspiring Harvard Falls, which can create a deafening roar. InstagramReddit

It's crucial to be prepared for varying trail conditions. In summer, expect humidity and insects, while winter transforms the area into a beautiful but potentially treacherous snowshoeing or ice-hiking destination. Always check recent trail reports and wear appropriate footwear, as the terrain can be slippery and uneven. InstagramReddit

To get the best shots, consider visiting during the 'golden hour' in the late afternoon for warm, soft light, or early morning to avoid crowds and capture a more tranquil scene. A tripod is also beneficial for achieving smooth water effects in long exposures, especially in lower light conditions. Instagram+1

Navigating the Trail and Parking

One of the most significant challenges for visitors to Georgiana Falls is the limited parking. The designated trailhead parking area is very small, often accommodating only 3-4 vehicles. This means that arriving early, especially on weekends or during peak season, is essential to secure a spot. Many visitors report having to park in overflow areas and walk a bit further to reach the trailhead, so factor this into your timing. Reddit

Trail navigation can also present minor difficulties. While the main path to Georgiana Falls is generally marked with red blazes, these can sometimes be faded or obscured. As you ascend towards Harvard Falls, the trail can become less distinct, leading some hikers to question their route. It's highly advisable to download an offline map or carry a physical map of the area to ensure you stay on track, especially if you plan to venture beyond the main falls. Reddit

For those planning a winter visit, snowshoeing is a popular activity. However, the trail can become significantly more challenging under snow and ice. Proper winter gear, including snowshoes, waterproof boots, and potentially microspikes, is crucial for safety and enjoyment. Always check local conditions before heading out. Reddit
