Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Maragheh Observatory a worthwhile, albeit brief, stop, primarily for its historical significance and the unique acoustic experience of the reconstructed dome. While the lack of original structures is a common point of disappointment, the panoramic views and the interactive echo make it a memorable visit for many.

"I wanted for a long time to visit Maragheh Observatory and I did it. I was little disappointed because there is nothing left. By the way nice view from there also there were a cave. It was worth it to visit for once."

Krenar Krivaqa

"It was perhaps the most prestigious and the biggest observatory in the world during the medieval time. This complex was built by Naser al-Din al-Tusi, one of the most famous scientists in the Islamic world at his time, with the patronage of Hulegu Khan during the second half of the thirteenth century. It remained active for more than half a century till the collapse the Ilkhanids shortly after the death of its last ruler Abu Said in 1335. It is said that thousands of scholars and scientists used to study there.

Currently only the base of the original building remains. Recently, the remaining part has been covered with a dome structure to protect it from further destructions."

Shengye Bai

"Unfortunately, there is not much left at the moment from the main observatory. But the structure of the observatory is very interesting. With the help of the domes constructed here, every sound underneath this white structure is heavily echoed and strengthened. This feature makes talking and even walking in this place very interesting and exciting."
