What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Shell Factory & Nature Park was a beloved, nostalgic 'Old Florida' attraction known for its vast shell collection and diverse animal park. While many cherished its unique charm and family-friendly atmosphere, some reviews noted its aging facilities, lack of air conditioning, and occasional slow service at the restaurant. Despite its eventual closure, it left a lasting impression on visitors who experienced its unique character over its 86 years of operation.
"Hate to see you go! This place was a true throwback to old Florida and although most people thought of it as just a very popular Roadside Attraction, those who got to experience The Shell Factory definitely have some memories to cherish. Florida thanks you for 86 years of fun and so does the wildlife."

"This is a family favorite. You can walk all around and see the animals and then play a quick game of miniature golf. Afterwards, head into the shell factory for the largest selection of sea shells . Also check out the sculptures made of shells. Have fun getting your pictures taken in the shark mouth. Learn about Florida's contribution to our veterans history. Refuel with a drink and piece of pizza in the snack shop. Finish off your adventure by purchasing yourself a gift or three."
Laura Mae Walls
"The animals were super fun that deserves a 5. We did the bumper boats too and that was pretty lame for 9$ you get 10 minutes for that. so that’s easily a 2. The restaurant was the worst. we were there for at least 2 hours. no one was there and the service was super slow. food was good. Just didn’t want to wait 2 hours for the drinks, food, and check."

The End of an Era: Shell Factory's Closure
Generations of visitors have fond memories of the Shell Factory, from its extensive shell collection to its quirky nature park and family-friendly atmosphere. The closure was met with sadness and reminiscence on social media, with many sharing their cherished experiences and the impact the attraction had on their childhoods. The loss of such a long-standing landmark leaves a void in the local tourist landscape.
Exploring the Nature Park
Despite its appeal, the Nature Park faced some criticisms. The reptile house, which also contained restrooms, was not air-conditioned, making it uncomfortable during warmer months. Additionally, the pricing for admission and animal feed was considered by some to be on the higher side, leading to mixed reviews regarding its value.
The Iconic Shell Factory Shop
However, the shop also received feedback about its condition and pricing. Some reviews noted that the building had seen better days, with signs of wear and tear, and a lack of air conditioning in many areas. Prices were sometimes described as overpriced for the items offered, and the overall presentation suggested a place that was struggling to keep up with modern retail standards.
