"Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site is a nice Revolutionary War battlefield to visit. At the site, interpretive signs and a bronze relief map on the scenic overlook describe the events of August 16,1777 battle. A small information building holds additional displays. The site is well laid out and quiet. It is easy to gain an understanding of the battle from the site.
At the Battle of Bennington American units led by John Stark and Seth Warner defeated a Hessian unit that was sent by British General John Burgoyne to seize supplies in Bennington. As a result of the battle Burgoyne's forces were weakened setting the state for the Battle of Saratoga a two months later. Battle positions of the forces are well marked on the battlefield.
As good as the site is, it could use a little bit more. If possible it would be good to have a guide or historical interpreter there. A movie would in the information center would also be a good addition. There is a hiking trail at the park, but it is hard to locate and more signs for it would be helpful. Other NY State Historic sites seem to have better resources at their sites, this one deserves an update.
After seeing the battlefield proceed to Bennington, Vermont to see the Bennington Monument; a huge obelisk building which commemorates the battle."

"Not too far from the monument in Bennington - maybe a little over 5 miles. Back in the day you could actually see the monument from the top of this hill. There is a great view from here of some of the major points of battle, as well as helpful displays. The view from this spot is even more spectacular in October. Beautiful."
