What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Henry Covered Bridge for its well-maintained historic charm and picturesque setting, especially the views from the adjacent park. The intricate lattice work is a highlight, though some caution against careless motorists damaging the structure. The bridge is a beloved example of New England's covered spans.
"Another gorgeous covered span over the Waloomsac River. This Town Lattice Truss bridge is welll-maintained and beautiful thanks to a state, county, and town that care. This beauty was built in 1840 and features open eaves that display her close-angle lattice timber work. She does, however, lack the 'car wash' rails like several of her sister bridges possess and is therefore more likely to be damaged by careless motorists. Covered bridges aren't EZ Pass plazas. Anyone operating a motor vehicle through one faster than a 'horse's trot' needs a boot to the neck. I can't count how many times I've nearly been clipped by some knucklehead pushing rally speeds through a covered bridge while I was in or near it. Just slow down and enjoy your nice things. Good grief."

"One of the scenic bridges of New England. Just like you see in the calendars. This bridge isn’t the original but a rebuilt bridge but still looks charming."

"Really pretty bridge. I imagine in the fall it's even better. There is a nice little park next to it that you can walk around and look at flowers. There is a short path down to the creek where you get a good side view of the bridge!"

The Architecture of Henry Covered Bridge
The bridge spans the Waloomsac River, and its construction reflects the ingenuity of early American engineering. The 'covered' aspect not only protects the wooden structure from the elements, extending its lifespan, but also provides a unique, almost tunnel-like experience for those passing through. The open eaves are a distinctive feature, offering a glimpse into the bridge's construction that isn't always visible in other covered bridges.
Travelers often remark on the well-maintained condition of the bridge, attributing it to the care provided by state, county, and town entities. This dedication ensures that this historic piece of architecture can continue to be appreciated by future generations. The visual appeal, especially when framed by natural scenery, makes it a popular subject for photography and a charming stop for anyone exploring the region.
Experiencing the Henry Covered Bridge Festival
One key piece of advice for festival-goers is to be prepared for spotty cell service. Many vendors rely on cash transactions due to connectivity issues, so bringing cash is highly recommended for easy shopping. This practical tip can save you from missing out on purchases or having to search for an ATM.
While the festival offers a unique energy, it also means higher crowd levels. If you prefer a more tranquil visit, consider exploring the bridge outside of festival dates. However, for those who enjoy a bustling event with local flavor, the festival provides a memorable way to engage with the history and community surrounding Henry Covered Bridge.
