"I love this creek but only in the winter when it's not so crowded. During the summer it's packed. No way wild trout could survive in the lower sections with this much traffic. NCWRC does a great job with the streams just wish we saw them more on the creeks. I usually drive past the crowds and fish for the smaller, elusive wild trout. Im not a huge fan of delayed harvest creeks but they do provide a easy dinner for a hungry fisherman in the summer. Lovely place to visit and please hike out more than you hike it, just be a good human. Thanks"

"A great area with plenty of trails, areas to tube, even have a picnic. One trail, 72, takes you in a loop around the falls. Great scenery but it needs some work. For a "moderate" trail, its steep, rocky, narrow, with lots of large tree roots. Many more in better shape and even some paved trails. Family and dog friendly too."

"Can this place really rate 4.9 stars in Western North Carolina - an area literally covered with superlative places? Yes, it can. And it does.
US64 between Murphy and Franklin is one of my favorite motorcycle trips. I've ridden 64 numerous times over the years. But until March of 2025, I had never been to Fires Creek. It is absolutely spectacular. I have heard that it gets crowded in the summer. With the creek being shallow and relatively calm at the parking area, I imagine that it would be popular during warm weather. But this place is an absolute gem.
The access is very easy and the (paved) drive back to the USFS area itself is very nice. Fires Creek is very large. The Rim Trail alone is 20+ miles in length. We walked the Leatherwood Branch Loop (not much over one mile, I don't believe). But it is lovely.
Afterward, we drove back FR340 to a road splitting off to the left. I believe that it was 340B, but don't quote me on it. It's a fairly short dead-end, but it is spectacular. We explored for a bit on foot. I believe that it is Rockhouse Creek that flows through this area. Just beautiful.
We can't wait to go back to see more of this special place.
And there are no user fees."
