What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors generally find the Great Frederick Fair to be a pleasant surprise, highlighting the clean grounds, variety of vendors, and especially the animal exhibits. While food can be a bit pricey, unique options are available, and the rides offer fun for all ages. Concerts are a major draw, though lines for amenities can be long.
"Visited on a weekend and still was able to enjoy the rides with the kiddos. The animals was definitely the highlight of our day. The kids definitely learned a lot and was able to pet some of them. The food was great except that some of them was a lilttle bit pricey i suggest to look around since i was able to find the same food for a lesser price ( esp for a big family). But overall the price for the entrance was affordable (better to buy online ahead of time since its cheaper) Be prepared to have cash on hand since not all the food and stall vendors accepts credit card. Plus if you are to park outside the fairgrounds they will charge 10$ flat rate cash. The game booths i think for me was too pricey per game."

"This fair was a pleasant surprise for being in a town the Size of Frederick. The variety of food stands was just as I expected. The deserts only stand was different and awesome, I highly recommend the peach dumpling w/ice cream. The ride midway has lots of rides for kids of all ages. The 2 roller coasters at a fair brought back memories from being younger. The number of animal barns and animals were the pleasant surprise. There is also a great variety of other vendors. Did I mention the entire fair grounds is very clean. If you are in the area during the fair and don't go you are missing out."

"Went to the fair on Friday 9/12 to see Brantley Gilbert and it was a wonderful experience even though we were in the standing room only section. Audio was great, only downside is drink lines and bathroom lines are long but that's also what you expect when going to concerts."

A Rich History of the Fair
Over the decades, the fair has evolved from its agricultural roots to encompass a wide range of entertainment, including live music, carnival rides, and diverse food vendors. It remains a cornerstone event, bringing together generations of families and celebrating local culture.
Today, the fairgrounds serve as a venue not only for the annual fair but also for various other events throughout the year, such as Christmas shows and home and garden expos, demonstrating its continued importance to the Frederick community.
Culinary Adventures at the Fair
Standout recommendations include the Peruvian food truck, which has received rave reviews for its authentic taste, and the dessert-only stand, particularly for its peach dumplings served with ice cream. For those seeking healthier options, a crepe stand run by deaf individuals is noted for its delicious and relatively healthy offerings, often paired with a large cherry limeade.
While the food is generally a hit, some visitors note that prices can be a bit high, especially for families. It's advised to explore different vendors to find the best value, as similar items can sometimes be found at different price points.
Concerts and Entertainment Lineup
Attending a concert at the fair means being part of a vibrant atmosphere, though it's important to be prepared for potential long lines for drinks and restrooms, which is typical for such events. The audio quality is generally reported as good, ensuring an enjoyable listening experience for attendees, even those in standing-room-only sections.
Beyond major concerts, the fair often features a variety of other entertainment, including local bands and performers, adding to the overall festive environment. Checking the fair's schedule in advance is crucial to know who is performing and when.
