"The Gemrock museum is a family run museum in the wee town of Creetown, 7 miles from Newton stewart in the stewarty of Kirkcudbright, Dumfries and galloway. The museum houses a trove of rocks, minerals, crystals, fossils and meteorites from our home in Scotland to countries from all over the world, mostly all authentic and some replicas of some of the world's largest cut diamonds. The museum is meticulously organised with an impressive collection of precious rocks and gems from Diamonds to opals, emeralds to jade, quartz to amethyst. Every igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rock is found in the museum. It is a very visual place.
Highlights include the Crystal cave with displays of crystals and minerals and a colourful display and a 5 minute narration explaining fluorescence. "This place is so good. I’m surprised it doesn’t get mentioned more. You get a lot for £7 entry. The collections are vast and there’s information telling you about each one. It was really fascinating seeing all the different pieces and especially the cave which is something you definitely need to explore and experience. There’s also a cafe selling many different meals and cakes. I had the chocolate fudge cake which was delicious and the staff even gave me a scoop of ice cream to go with it which was lovely. Will definitely visit again soon.💛"
