What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Wat Chalong for its stunning architecture, serene atmosphere, and cultural significance. Many appreciate the opportunity to rent traditional Thai attire for memorable photos. Some find that organized tours offer too little time to fully explore the complex.
"Wat Chalong is one of the most beautiful and spiritually significant temples in Phuket. The temple complex is well-maintained, with stunning architecture that showcases intricate Thai craftsmanship. The main pagoda (Chedi) is especially impressive, as it houses a relic of the Buddha and offers peaceful surroundings for reflection.
The temple grounds are spacious and filled with ornate statues, detailed carvings, and colorful decorations, making it both a cultural and visual delight. Visitors will also notice locals lighting incense and candles, which adds to the authentic spiritual atmosphere.
It’s a wonderful place to learn about Thai Buddhist traditions, pay respects, or simply enjoy the serene environment. While it can get busy during peak tourist hours, the atmosphere remains calm and respectful.
Dress modestly when visiting, as it’s an active place of worship. Entrance is free, but donations are welcome to help with the temple’s upkeep.
Overall, Wat Chalong is a must-visit if you’re exploring Phuket—not only for its cultural significance but also for its beauty and tranquility."

"This temple is a great spot for tourists—not just for its religious value, but also for its beautiful architecture. I really love how it’s located near the hills or mountains. When I parked my scooter at the temple and looked back, I saw the mountain just behind it—it was such a stunning view.
The air there is very fresh, and the area is spacious. You can feed the fish in the pond, which is full of life, and there are also many birds around. I enjoyed playing with the birds—they’re very friendly and make for beautiful videos.
I was actually surprised to see so many tourists here, but I believe it’s because they also appreciate the stunning architecture and peaceful atmosphere like I do. I think there are around 5 or 6 different temples in this area, each with its own unique style and different Buddha images.
My favorite was the tallest one—you can walk inside, and it has several floors. If I remember correctly, the first floor is filled with many Buddha images. On the second floor, there’s a large white Buddha statue. The third floor offers an amazing 360-degree view of the surrounding area. And on the top floor, there’s something very special—I’m not sure what it’s called, but it seems to be a relic, possibly a tooth of the Buddha. It’s interesting to watch people, especially Thai visitors, insert coins or bills as they make wishes or prayers for good luck."

Even with visitors around, there’s a real sense of calm and reverence here.
The architecture is beautiful, and the grounds are full of detail if you take the time to slow down.
A meaningful stop during any ride through the heart of the island. 🛕✨"

Navigating Phuket's Transport for Temple Visits
When planning your itinerary, consider the time allocated by organized tours. Some Reddit users found that the typical 30-minute stop at sights like Wat Chalong or the Big Buddha was insufficient for proper exploration. If you prefer to linger and soak in the atmosphere, opting for a private driver or using ride-sharing apps for point-to-point travel might be a better choice. This allows you to set your own pace and spend as much time as you wish at each location.
It's also worth noting that some attractions, like the Big Buddha, have experienced temporary closures due to natural events. While Wat Chalong is generally consistently open, it's always a good idea to have a backup plan or check recent updates if you're relying on visiting specific sites. Having a reliable transport method like inDriver ensures you can adapt your plans easily if needed.
