🥯 刈包師大夜市 ~ Gua bao or pork belly bun stall in Shida Night Market. A popular street snack which is basically a steamed ♨️ bun stuffed with braised pork, pickled veggies, peanut 🥜 powder and cilantro. Reviews Summary

Shida Night Market offers a more relaxed and authentic experience compared to larger, more touristy markets. While some feel it has lost some of its former vibrancy, many original food stalls and unique clothing shops remain, providing affordable and delicious options. It's a good choice for those seeking a less crowded night market adventure.

"Random…found my long lost shawarma here. Still alive and kicking after 30 years?

This night market has definitely gone downhill. It’s not crowded at all. Funny thing is, the stalls that I’ve been looking for were still around here. Felt less of a tourist trap and more of what once was the standard for night market foods.

Hope it gets better…otherwise it might not be here next time I visit.

Wouldn’t recommend visiting if you’re from out of town. Go to a larger one so you can have a raider experience."

"Shida Night Market hasn't fully recovered its former lively atmosphere post-Covid. Many night markets in Taipei have changed, with some shrinking or shifting focus from shopping to dining. Ask a cafe staff she said shida night market has 没落了(not as vibrant as before).

For a more vibrant experience, consider visiting these bigger and livelier night markets in Taipei instead: Ximending (food & shop) more touristy, Ningxia & Raohe (Food), Shilin Night market(food, games & shop)the biggest so far but also not as lively as precovid."

"recommended place to visit! have so many choices for lunch and dinner…"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Evolution of Shida Night Market

Shida Night Market, once a bustling hub, has seen changes in recent years. Post-COVID, many visitors note a less crowded and perhaps less vibrant atmosphere compared to its peak. This shift is partly attributed to rising rents and evolving consumer habits, leading some long-standing stalls to relocate or close. Reddit Despite these changes, the market retains a charm for those seeking a more relaxed experience. It's often described as less of a 'tourist trap' and more of a place where original food vendors still thrive, offering a glimpse into what night markets were like before mass tourism. Reddit

While some may find it has 'died out' or is 'not as vibrant as before,' others appreciate the more manageable crowds and the continued presence of authentic food stalls. For visitors looking for an overwhelming sensory experience with endless shopping and games, larger markets like Shilin or Raohe might be preferred. However, for those who enjoy a more laid-back exploration with a focus on quality street food and unique shops, Shida still offers a rewarding visit. TikTokReddit
