What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Taipei Zoo for its vast size, diverse animal collection, and humane enclosures. The affordability and accessibility are major draws, making it a top family-friendly attraction. While some note that animals can be elusive and the zoo is very large, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, offering a great value for a day of exploration and learning.
"The Taipei Zoo is without a doubt one of the best attractions in Taipei and a must-visit for travelers of all ages. This zoo is not only the largest in Taiwan, but also one of the most family-friendly destinations in Taipei, offering a perfect mix of education, nature, and entertainment.
From the moment you enter, you’ll notice the excellent organization: the pathways are wide, clean, and clearly marked, making it easy to explore the different animal areas. The zoo is incredibly well maintained, and every section is designed to give visitors a smooth and enjoyable experience. With a wide variety of animals from Asia, Africa, and beyond, there is always something new to discover.
The absolute highlight is seeing the giant panda, one of the most famous animals in the world. Watching this rare and adorable creature up close is truly unforgettable and is often the main reason many visitors come to the Taipei Zoo. Families especially love this attraction, as children get the chance to learn about wildlife while enjoying a fun day out.
Accessibility is another great advantage: the Taipei Zoo is easy to reach by metro or bus, and the entrance fee is very affordable, making it one of the best-value activities in Taipei. There are also plenty of rest areas, shaded spots, and family facilities, which make visiting comfortable even on a long day.
If you are looking for a top attraction in Taipei that combines nature, culture, and fun, the Taipei Zoo should definitely be at the top of your list. Don’t miss the chance to see the panda and enjoy one of the city’s most unique and memorable experiences. 🌟"

"Great experience to see Pandas and other animals…. I love 🐼…. But it would be great if they placed them more conducive to their habitat… they are a little bit dirty…. I love the shopping area inside… great 🐼 souvenirs….
Its a good choice to add this into your itinerary if you are fans of 🐼 , 🐨, 🐵 , 🐘"

"Taipei Zoo is huge! Way bigger than I expected! With that, there are so many animals to see and different zones to explore. My friends and I arrived around 2:00 PM, thinking we had enough time, but honestly, 4 hours wasn’t enough to visit everything since the zoo closes at 6:00 PM. If you want to see it all, come earlier! We still had so much fun though.
Would like to add that some areas didn’t have visible animals because the animals were just hiding in their enclosures, which I actually appreciated. It shows they’re not forcing animals to be out in the open all the time, which is more humane.
Also, the zoo is clean, well-maintained, and the animals looked healthy and well cared for. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Taipei! Especially if you love animals like me!"

Navigating the Vast Taipei Zoo
To combat the sheer scale, the zoo offers a shuttle train service that stops at key locations. This is highly recommended, especially if you have limited time or are visiting with children or elderly companions. Many visitors suggest using the train to cover longer distances and then exploring specific areas on foot.
Remember that the terrain can be hilly, so comfortable walking shoes are a must. The zoo's design prioritizes the animals' natural habitats, meaning enclosures are often spacious and integrated into the landscape, which is a positive for animal welfare but can mean animals are not always immediately visible.
The Maokong Gondola Connection
Taking the gondola up to Maokong offers stunning panoramic views of Taipei city and the surrounding tea plantations. Maokong itself is famous for its tea houses, where you can relax, enjoy local teas, and savor the peaceful atmosphere. Many travelers recommend taking the gondola up and then walking down or taking a bus back to experience more of the scenery.
While combining both can be done in a day, some visitors find it rushed. A more relaxed approach might involve dedicating a full morning to the zoo and an afternoon to Maokong, or vice versa. This allows for a more immersive experience at each location without feeling too hurried.
Family-Friendly Fun at Taipei Zoo
Beyond the animals, the zoo offers a sense of wonder and discovery for young minds. Interactive exhibits and informative signage (often with English translations) help children learn about wildlife conservation and different ecosystems. The chance to see iconic animals like pandas and koalas up close is a guaranteed hit.
It's also a budget-friendly option for family entertainment. The affordable entrance fee means you can have a full day of fun without breaking the bank. Many families find it to be a heartwarming experience, creating lasting memories together.
