This is my favourite beach on the Island of Mallorca! Caló des Moro is a totally beautiful cove. The beach is gorgeous, especially for the crystal-clear turquoise waters, white sand, and dramatic cliffs (which you have to ramble across to get here. Yeah, you will get sweaty but it’s worth it). Best of all, the beach is located only about 5 kilometers from the town of Santanyí, which we loved and c...

Reviews Summary

Caló des Moro is celebrated for its incredibly beautiful turquoise waters and dramatic cliff scenery, offering a picturesque spot for swimming and photos. However, visitors consistently mention the significant crowds, the challenging walk to access the cove, and the lack of amenities, advising early arrival and preparedness. InstagramReddit

"Beautiful spot with fun, crystal clear water to swim in. However, getting there was a challenge. We got there around noon and had to walk 20 minutes to get there, since spots were filled up and the road down there blocked off. It's also a steep climb down (and on your way back, up). Definitely not recommended for people with mobility issues. There isn't much sand to put your stuff down on either. People sat down on the rocks. Also the water is very wavy and gets deep fast. Definitely a place to get there early, bring a lunch (nowhere to eat or drink on site), and hang out for a long time. I'll still give it 4 stars because I enjoyed the views and the water."

Deniz Erkmen

"Amazing view!! You can swim in the water but there is only a very small beach. You can lay on the rocks though. You need to park a bit away from the actual place."

Anouk Vanelderen

"It is one of the best cala on the island of Mallorca, turquoise water, fine sand, clean water, easy access, parking (avoid parking in unauthorized places)... it also offers the possibility of swimming in the sun and shelter from the sun thanks to the cliff on the south side, ideal for those allergic to ultra-violet, for diving enthusiasts, possibility of diving to more than 6 meters. The beach is usually saturated on the sand side, especially on weekends, which gives the impression that people are crowded together, to be avoided if you like fewer people."

Navigating the Journey to Caló des Moro

Reaching Caló des Moro requires a bit of effort, but the stunning reward is well worth it. Most visitors opt to drive, with the journey from Palma taking approximately one hour. Upon arrival, you'll find designated parking areas, but these are known to fill up rapidly, especially during peak times. Be prepared for a walk of about 15 to 20 minutes from your parking spot to the cove itself. This path can be steep and rocky, so comfortable footwear is essential. TikTokInstagramReddit

For those relying on public transport, the route involves taking a bus to the town of Santanyí, followed by a local bus or a taxi to get closer to the beach. While feasible, this option offers less flexibility compared to having your own vehicle. It's important to note that Caló des Moro is not easily accessible for those with mobility issues, strollers, or wheelchairs due to the challenging terrain. TikTok

Pro Tip: To make the journey smoother, consider visiting on a weekday and arriving very early in the morning. This will not only help you secure parking but also allow you to enjoy the pristine beauty of the cove before the crowds arrive, making the walk feel less arduous. Reddit

Making the Most of Your Visit: What to Bring

Caló des Moro is a natural paradise, which means it comes with no amenities. This is crucial to remember when packing for your visit. The most important item is plenty of water. Given the heat and the walk, staying hydrated is paramount. Pack more than you think you'll need. InstagramReddit

Beyond water, bring snacks and a packed lunch. Since there are no restaurants or cafes nearby, a picnic is the best way to refuel. Consider a cooler bag to keep your food and drinks fresh. Sun protection is also vital: sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are non-negotiable. While some visitors bring beach umbrellas, space can be limited once you're on the beach. Reddit

Finally, footwear is a key consideration. While some manage with flip-flops, many recommend sturdy walking shoes or trainers due to the rocky and uneven path leading down to the cove. If you plan on exploring the rocks or snorkeling, water shoes can also be beneficial. Remember to pack out everything you pack in to help preserve this beautiful natural spot. TikTokReddit

Understanding the Caló des Moro Experience

Caló des Moro is renowned for its stunningly clear, shallow turquoise waters and dramatic cliff surroundings, making it a picturesque spot for swimming and sunbathing. However, it's important to manage expectations regarding the beach itself. The sandy area is quite small and can become extremely crowded, especially during peak season and on weekends. Many visitors find themselves sitting on the surrounding rocks, which can be a unique experience but may not be comfortable for everyone. InstagramReddit

The water, while beautiful, can also get deep quite quickly as you move away from the shore, so caution is advised. For those who enjoy snorkeling, the rocky areas offer a good opportunity to explore marine life. The cove is particularly beautiful during the golden hour, offering a magical sunset view. Reddit

Despite the crowds and lack of facilities, many visitors find the sheer beauty of Caló des Moro to be worth the effort. The key to enjoying it is to arrive very early, be prepared with all your necessities, and embrace the natural, somewhat wild, environment. TikTokReddit
