What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Sant Feliu de Boada Church for its historical depth, beautiful ancient stonework, and unique Gothic ambiance. Many appreciate the free entry and the peaceful atmosphere, making it a worthwhile stop in the medieval village of Pals. Some note its primitive feel due to limited windows, suggesting it's best for a focused visit.
"Beautiful St. Peter’s Church (Església de Sant Pere) is a must-see when visiting the beautiful medieval village of Pals.
The church stands on the site of an original Romanesque temple built in 944, making it one of the oldest known religious sites in the region. In the 15th century, it underwent a significant Gothic-style reconstruction, using stones from the ruined Castell de Pals, which had been destroyed during the Catalan civil wars. This reuse of castle stone gives the church an even deeper symbolic connection to the town's past. One of the most unique features is the polygonal apse, which appears semicircular from the outside — a beautiful design detail. The main façade, added later, is primarily Baroque in style but still shows visible traces of earlier Romanesque elements from the 12th century. The bell tower, added in the 18th century, completes the church’s eclectic architectural profile. The blending of styles — Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque — makes the building both historically rich and visually captivating. St. Peter’s Church is a highlight of any visit to Pals. It’s peaceful, well cared for, and filled with character — just like the town itself. Entrance to the church is free of charge. Car parks can be found just outside town walls."

"Visited on a Monday morning in late May. We had a great visit here. It was thankfully not terribly busy though there were still plenty of people about. It’s a lovely old church. Sturdy, not overly ornate. The church seems well preserved overall, very clean too. Unless you’re really into you’re history and want to spend a lot of time here, I think it’s the kind of site that can be done in a morning or part of an afternoon. We would definitely recommend a visit here if you are in the vicinity."
