Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Parque Eco-Arqueológico Copalita for its stunning ocean views from the Mirador and the opportunity to see local wildlife. While some pathways are undergoing reconstruction and access to the ruins is restricted, the affordable entrance fee and the unique historical insights make it a worthwhile visit. Reddit+1

"Still relatively unknown to tourists, the Copalita Ecological Park and Ruins (Parque Eco Arqueológico Copalita) sit on the shores of the Pacific Ocean in the Huatulco resort area. Remnants of pyramids, temples, a ball court, and a pre-Hispanic lighthouse dot the lush landscape of the archaeological park, which also includes a massive stone believed to have once been used in sacrifices.
It has a beautiful viewing point!"

"Please note* this place is constantly updating, so things may have changed!

Summary:
1. Gorgeous views with a small uphill walk/ hike.

2. Loads of geckos, birds, and other animals.

3. A lot of the pathways were washed out due to hurricane. They seem to be rebuilding!

4. You cannot go up to the ruins, though you can see them from about 12 feet away.

5. There was no small museum when we visited. It seemed empty, but maybe it will be there when you visit!

While supporting a National Park in Mexico, you can take a stroll up a stone pathway to some outstanding views of La Bocana, the coast, and see where the river and ocean meet by a sand bar. The views were gorgeous, and we saw so many animals. If you're lucky you can see horses running along the beach below. While walking, there are big signs that teach you about the local fauna in Spanish. It's interesting stuff!

Some of the pathways have been washed out due to hurricanes. They seem to be actively fixing this, but something to note as a lot of the pathways are under construction. Still great to go support them while they rebuild!

The ruins are active archeological sites. This means you cannot take photos, or walk directly up to the ruins. It's still really neat to see the architecture, as it's different than how the Mayans used to build."

"Great two hour walk in a Mexican jungle. Definitley a work in progress, but well worth the 90 pesos. Great views at the top of the walk.

Maybe the archeology people and the National park people will get back together under cordial circumstances, settle their differences and get back to letting people take photos of the 1500 yr old ruins. Right now, no photos allowed."
