What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the magical Sky Mirror reflection and the enchanting evening tours featuring fireflies and blue tears. Many highlight the excellent photography services provided by tour operators and the overall value of bundled packages. However, some found the blue tears experience less impactful than expected, and clear communication at the jetty can sometimes be an issue during peak crowds.
"First time to Sky Mirror and was told by friends not to expect too much. On the day we went which was a few days ago, it was a cloudy day, we went on a boat ride with other groups and the boat ride was nice. Constant sea wind on our face, bliss. Fun Life Jetty provided our group with a designated photographer to help us take pics and the results are very satisfactory. The kids had a lot of fun playing with the hermit crabs. We also joined the eagle feeding, fireflies and bio luminescent algae tour in the evening. It was raining during that time we thought it would affect our experience. To our surprise, there were more fireflies to see after the rain compared to my previous trip when weather was nice n dry. The mangroves light up like Christmas tree, it was truly magical. Same thing with the bio luminescent algae we saw the blue ripples. It was once in a lifetime experience. Thanks Sky Mirror Fun Life Jetty for a fun and amazing trip for our family. ❤️"

"There was a heavy lack of explanation and guidance when reaching the dock. We tried searching for staff to show our tickets to, but they were too busy with the crowd to confirm our booking, so we ended up boarding the wrong boat (we booked blue tears but ended up boarding fireflies). The mistake was quickly rectified upon us raising the issue once we got back, and we were told to hop on the next blue tears boat.
Fireflies tour: Please don't be that person to turn on flash to view or capture the fireflies. It highly disturbs the experience of other guests. I wish the boat operator would've said something about this and laid some ground rules down. Guests using flash make it harder to see the fireflies in person (it needs to be completely dark). That aside, it was magical to see the fireflies sparkling from the mangroves.
Blue tears tour: They give you a stick with the net to drag across the water. You need some muscle for this. Can't go too deep or too shallow. If you do it right, the water in your net will light up with blue sparkles like magic. Personally I found it to be a once in a lifetime experience. Just knowing that nature is beautiful and unique, able to create something like this on its own"

The Magic of the Sky Mirror
Many tour packages include a dedicated photographer who knows the best angles and poses to capture the magic. Visitors often describe the experience as 'once in a lifetime' and highly recommend trusting the process, as the results are consistently stunning. It's important to note that the visibility of the Sky Mirror is entirely dependent on the tide, so checking the tide schedule is crucial for planning your visit.
While the visual spectacle is the main draw, the boat ride to and from the Sky Mirror also offers pleasant sea breezes and views. It's a relatively short trip, with visitors typically spending about 1.5 hours on the sandbank itself for photos and exploration.
Enchanting Evening Adventures: Fireflies and Blue Tears
For the 'blue tears' tour, you'll venture out onto the water to witness bioluminescent algae. When disturbed, these microscopic organisms emit a soft blue glow, creating mesmerizing ripples and trails in the water. While some visitors find this experience requires a bit of effort to see clearly, others describe it as a unique and magical encounter with nature's wonders.
Crucially, for both evening tours, avoid using flash photography. The bright light can disturb the fireflies and diminish the natural glow of the blue tears, impacting the experience for everyone. Bringing insect repellent is also highly recommended, as mosquitoes can be present in the mangrove areas.
Planning Your Visit: Packages and Practicalities
When booking, look for operators with efficient communication and reasonable pricing. Many reviewers praise companies like 'Fun Life Jetty' for their friendly service, informative guides, and professional photography included in the package. It's also worth inquiring about packages that include transportation from your accommodation, as this can simplify logistics significantly.
Practical amenities at the jetty include clean toilets, and there's a hotel conveniently located nearby. While food is available, some visitors suggest exploring local seafood restaurants in the Pasir Penambang area for a more extensive culinary experience.
