What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the mesmerizing views of the Sea of Japan and the unique glass-bottom boat ride, which offers a glimpse into marine life. The scenic walk and the opportunity to feed seagulls are also highlights. However, some found the boat ride less fantastic in choppy seas, and the walk to the port is a considerable distance.
"One of the most beautiful places in Sado Island. The view of the Sea of Japan is mesmerising. There is boat ride that can be taken while you are at there, additional tickets need to be taken, is a must recommended experience to try. Right before you board the boat but the shrimp crackers they sell over there. The sea gull follow you while on the boat and you can feed them the shrimp crackers. The boat also guides you to show the local marine life though the glass bottom view from the boat. There is a small restaurant and souvenir shop as well."

"On July 29, 2025, my wife and I drove here primarily for lunch. Visiting just the observational point costed 500 yen/head. I tried to have a feel of rowing a tub boat but was going nowhere. Fortunately, I tried the real one elsewhere later on."

"A must-visit place for when you go to Sado Island. The main activity is a boat ride -- the boat's floor has a transparent portion, allowing you to look down into the ocean and observe the coral and schools of fish. The scenery and breeze is amazing, and seagulls, who are non-hostile towards people in general, are heavily present, which is a delight as far as birdwatching goes. Also, note that the walk from the building, down to the boat port, is not short -- it's a long, scenic, downhill walk, with plenty of scenic detours worth taking, including lots of places from which you can look over the rocky cliffs (see images (the character is Torisumi Horou, a crested ibis)). The panoramic shot, for example, is taken from a bridge located by a lighthouse that you pass by on the way down to the boat port. Crossing the bridge leads to another viewing area, that also has vending machines available. Ultimately, most people spend around an hour here, but if you are keen on taking lots of photos, then you can spend as much as 2+ hours here, so do plan accordingly."

However, the quality of this experience is heavily dependent on sea conditions. When the water is calm and clear, the visibility is excellent, making the marine life easily discernible. Conversely, choppy or murky waters can significantly reduce visibility, potentially leading to disappointment. Therefore, checking the weather forecast and sea state before committing to the boat ride is a crucial piece of advice from seasoned visitors.
Beyond the underwater views, the boat ride itself offers a pleasant journey along the coast, allowing you to appreciate the scale and grandeur of the sea cliffs from a different vantage point.
