What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Spa World offers a vast array of themed saunas and relaxation zones, providing a unique and extensive spa experience. While many visitors enjoy the variety and the opportunity for a full day of relaxation, some reviews mention concerns about cleanliness, construction disruptions, and negative interactions with staff or other patrons. Security of personal belongings in lockers has also been a point of concern for some guests.
"Got food poisoning here from one of the restaurants. Ruined my stay in Osaka. Came here to relax and recover from two busy weeks in Japan. The opposite happened. Ended up throwing up all night and being in bed the next two days.
Whichever restaurant we went to, it was obvious they didn't like foreigners. That was my first time experiencing this in Japan as normally everyone was very polite when you are polite to them and use some basic Japanese phrases. Really unfortunate.
Otherwise the spa rooms were fine, even though a lot was closed off due to construction."

"Posting this for my best friend who had a VERY BAD EXPERIENCE at Spa World Osaka. Japan is known to be a safe country—me and my friends come here every year. But for the first time during our trips to Japan, someone from Spa World has stolen from my best friend.
He was in the male bath area and placed his belongings, including cash (amounting to over 120,000 yen and 1,000 USD), inside the coin locker. He made sure it was locked, checking it twice. When he came back from his bath, the locker was still locked. However, when he went to pay, to his shock, his pouch was left with only coins—all of his cash was gone.
Coin lockers are supposed to secure your belongings while you enjoy the baths. So how could this happen? Even if the coin locker was locked, how did someone manage to open it? Unless, perhaps, someone from inside Spa World was involved since you need a master key to open those lockers.
He reported the incident to the police early this morning, September 10, 2025, around 4–5 AM. The police told him that a case like this could take 1–2 years. The management of Spa World also told him they would have to investigate.
I am dumbfounded that this happened in Spa World. My friends and I always go there whenever we visit Osaka. I was even planning to go tomorrow, but because of what happened to my best friend, I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE at Spa World. Even if I left my cash in the hotel, what if my phone gets stolen from the locker? Since it seems like someone who works there may have access, how can I bathe in peace?
I just hope the management will take immediate action. My best friend keeps crying and has been traumatized by this incident. If anyone has plans to go to Spa World, please think twice. Even the paid coin lockers aren’t safe."

"Went to the hot spring last night and left disappointed. I’ve been to spa world before l and had a great experience but yesterday was absolutely terrible. Even though there’s staff cleaning the shower area it was still a mess with people’s used body towels and buckets left on the floor. Also an empty can of sprite was left near one of the baths, why does it not get cleaned straight away? Overall just felt a bit dirty and the construction work killed the vibe. Be aware of the extra late night fee after 12am. It feels like a rip off. As someone who is also half Japanese I felt uncomfortable by the other customers in the hot spring looking at me and showing clear dislike towards me being there too. I wouldn’t recommend coming here."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider visiting during weekday mornings to avoid the largest crowds and ensure a more relaxed experience for everyone. While the waterpark is a plus, be aware that some areas might have additional fees, and it's always wise to supervise children closely. The diverse relaxation zones mean there's something for everyone, making it a comprehensive destination for a family day out.
💰 Budget Travelers
To maximize value, plan to spend the entire day there, utilizing the various free relaxation areas and enjoying the diverse sauna experiences. Bringing your own snacks might be restricted, but the on-site dining options, while not budget-priced, offer convenience. Visiting during off-peak hours or late at night (being mindful of the surcharge) can sometimes offer a slightly lower entry fee or a less crowded experience.
couples
Consider booking a couples' massage or spa treatment for an enhanced shared experience. The variety of themed zones also provides an element of adventure and discovery, making it a fun and rejuvenating outing. Plan for a full day to truly immerse yourselves in the tranquil atmosphere and explore all the amenities together.

Exploring the Themed Onsen Zones
Within these zones, you'll find an array of specialized saunas, such as salt saunas, jade saunas, charcoal saunas, and even ice rooms for a refreshing contrast. The temperature and humidity levels are carefully controlled to provide distinct therapeutic benefits. It's important to note that these onsen areas are typically gender-segregated, and nudity is expected. Small towels are provided for modesty when moving between areas.
Visitors often rave about the sheer variety and the novelty of experiencing different cultural spa traditions under one roof. The monthly rotation ensures that even repeat visitors can discover something new. Remember to check the current theme schedule upon arrival to plan your bathing experience accordingly.
Family Fun at the Waterpark
It's worth noting that access to the waterpark usually requires a separate ticket or is part of a higher-tier admission package. Some reviews suggest that while the waterpark is enjoyable for kids, it might feel a bit dated or underwhelming for the price, especially if you're expecting elaborate rides. However, for a family looking for a way to entertain children during a spa visit, it serves its purpose well.
When visiting with children, be mindful of the general Spa World rules regarding age limits in certain areas and always supervise your kids closely, especially in and around water. The presence of a dedicated kids' area makes Spa World a more inclusive destination for families seeking relaxation and entertainment.

Visitors can dine in their provided robes or comfortable loungewear, adding to the relaxed atmosphere.
However, some reviews have mentioned negative experiences with food quality and service, including instances of food poisoning and perceived unwelcoming attitudes towards foreigners. While many guests have positive dining experiences, it's advisable to be aware of these potential issues and perhaps choose establishments that appear busy and well-maintained.
