Reviews Summary

Visitors find Tochio Hachimangu Shrine to be an impressively large and spiritually significant site, particularly noted for its thousands of burning prayer candles. While the shrine is a place for sincere prayer and purification, some visitors have found the candle offering instructions unclear. The annual festival offers a vibrant experience with fireworks and food stalls.

"It's a place that has been visited for purification and prayer since ancient times, so it's normal to go.

I don't think it's a good idea for people who are looking for excessive benefits or who want to make a profit by simply dropping in a coin as an offering.

I think it's ultimately up to the person's own thoughts when they go."

"It was an impressively large shrine.
I visited on November 5th, which happened to be the day the gods were moving in."

"This was my first visit. It was a magnificent building, and it felt different from a shrine. It also had a similar feel to Izumo Taisha. There were two or three parking spaces, and I wasn't sure where to park. I had no prior knowledge or information, but I figured I'd figure it out when I got there... When I entered the main shrine, there was a sign that said "No photography," so I took off my shoes. There was a sign that said, "Light five candles and offer them as a prayer." It said 500 yen for five candles. Five candles per person? Five candles for a family? I didn't really understand, so I just offered some money, said hello, and went home. When I got home and read reviews, I saw that the shrine itself states that the best way to pray is to light five colored candles for each person and offer them to the altar, but it's not mandatory. It's my fault for not researching beforehand, but I would have appreciated it if the directions were a little clearer. I would definitely visit again if there was a machine available."
