Reviews Summary

The Hiroshima Port Passenger Terminal is a functional, modern facility primarily serving cruise ship arrivals and ferry connections. While appreciated for its newness and the convenient free shuttle to transport hubs, visitors note a lack of amenities like cafes and water refill stations. Its location on the outskirts means onward travel to the city center requires a taxi or public transport connection.

"Modest facility for cruise ships located on edge of Hiroshima. About $18 USD taxi to peace park and castle area. There were a few tables set up inside to provide information to cruise passengers."

"NCL Spirit port of call on Nov 22 2024. Customs checks were done in the outdoor despite completion of the new facility eight months ago.

The building felt small for the purpose with its waiting room always packed full of WiFi users all the time. Not much going on except for the basic utilities and information kiosk. The send-away is relatively subtle, but the locals were surely excited.

But the best thing is the free shuttle to the ferry terminal, where there is an hourly departure to Miyajima and tram station. There is also a direct bus to the city centre where you can find Sogo and the castle.

It's actually only about 15 minute walk to the closest tram stop from the pier, but it's always a nice touch when the local authorities put visitor experience before the cruise operator's revenues.

There was apparently a special 8:20am Miyajima ferry (weekend schedule) arranged on that day but we found no information about it and missed the boat. There was also a special outdoor beer stall at the ferry terminal that again we did not know.

Perhaps the Hiroshima authorities can join some Facebook roll-call groups ahead of time and convey these tips to at least some cruisers."

"This Hiroshima UJINA Cruise Ship Port is known by locals at the "10,000 Ton Berth" and is the port for the less heavy and less deep cruise ships that come to Hiroshima. (The heavier and deeper cruise ships will dock at Itsukaichi Cruise Ship port). As a local Hiroshima guide I find that this Ujina port is more convenient than the other port to get a small boat to Miyajima (from the nearby UJINA ferry port) or to get a tram or bus into the Hiroshima city center.
They have a new facility in front but no coffee shop or even a place to refill water bottles before heading onto tour buses or guided tours- so it could be improved.
The port facility in front of the cruise ship is a good place to meet guests, but it is just an empty hall with toilets that could be improved for comfort and promote local unique made-in-Hiroshima products, culture and performances.
It would be nice to see it revamped with a welcoming high-quality coffee shop that is open and becomes popular with locals even when there is no ship in port, comfortable seats & working, talking and meeting areas would be a welcome change.
When the cruise ship is in port, they do have a line of taxi's waiting to take passengers into town or to the nearby ferry port but you can also walk along the wharf to get to the same Ujina ferry port in about 10 minutes (to go to Miyajima and other nearby islands)."
