"Famous as a landmark of Waterford, this building is remarkable!
First time i saw it,it seemed odd,as though the full size church sunk into the ground, and the tower is all that's left above the ground...😂
It is also interesting,it has a stonemason's mark,on the bottom left side, which looks like Awen symbol. There are a few more buildings around with the same mark."

The Quays and Clock Tower in Waterford, built in 1863, is a striking example of Gothic Revival architecture. More than just a timepiece, it originally served as a fountain, a feature that provided water for horse troughs along the busy quay. This dual purpose highlights its integration into the daily life and infrastructure of 19th-century Waterford. The tower's most distinctive feature, beyond its clock faces, is the presence of a stonemason's mark, an Awen symbol, which can be found on its lower left side. This mark is not unique to this structure and appears on other buildings in the vicinity, hinting at a shared craftsmanship or guild. Reddit

Despite its historical significance, the tower has sometimes been partially obscured by construction work, a common occurrence in developing urban areas. However, visitors consistently note that even with such temporary disruptions, the tower retains its charm and adds to the aesthetic of the quay. Its unique appearance, sometimes described as looking like a church tower that has sunk into the ground with only the spire remaining visible, adds to its character and makes it a memorable landmark for those who encounter it. Reddit

The tower faces four directions, ensuring its presence is felt across the quay. It stands as a testament to the craftsmanship of its era and continues to be a point of interest for locals and tourists alike, offering a tangible connection to Waterford's past. Reddit
