"This lake is one of the biggest in the region and is located in the middle of a desertic landscape. The entrance ticket is 5 USD but you can pay in egyptian pounds or euros. This place is ideal if you like hiking, horse riding or if you are in the right season to observe the birds. You can also do a safari if you wish. Personally I made a two hours walk and I appreciated the stunning landscape and the quietness of the place. There is not much infrastructure around the lake and it’s maintenance could be better (some place are full of garbage/plastics 🥲)."

"This place is amazing. It has lots of history, Lake qaroun, and the ancient monastery in the desert were amazing. The city is crowded but Egypt in general is crowded so it is what it is.
Fayoum is a an oasis province south of Cairo. An hour's drive away. Prepare for a simple picnic in wadi alrayan lake at the far end of fayoum where you can fish and enjoy the desert breeze away from Cairo's hustle and bustle.
There is another lake (called lake qaroun named after a person who lived in the times of Moses) at the entrance of the Oasis with some simple tourist resort next to it, if you don't want to go too far."
