What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Brewers Bay Beach is praised for its local, relaxed atmosphere and opportunities to see sea turtles and planes. While some visitors find the snorkeling decent and appreciate the quiet, others note potential issues with swells, rocky areas, and inconsistent service from local vendors. It's a good choice for those seeking an authentic, less touristy beach experience.
"If you're looking for a less touristy beach this is one to add to your list. Has good parking in the middle or by Nicole's. The middle area is more sandy and less rocky. If you're looking for decent snorkelling, you can do so from the beach on either side of the bay, going up the rocks. It's definitely more secluded and relaxed. Low tide is around 1pm but check the local forecast. I'd suggest this beach more for snorkelling than casual swimming."

"We may have picked a bad day/time to visit. We’d hoped to find a calmer beach, but all over there have been big swells around Tortola. If I’d known that there are lots of rocks everywhere, we might not have come. Plus the color of the water wasn’t as beautiful as other locations. Again, maybe just bad luck with overall conditions."

"We arrived early on a Saturday with an increased chance of rain. Nicole's was not open yet and a rude man told us the chairs were for rent and we could not put our stuff on them. We explained we were happy to rent them, but wanted to see if it was going to rain. He said we had to pay or move so we left. Smugglers cove is much more friendly. Not less than 3 stars because we never really stayed on the beach."

Marine Life at Brewers Bay
It's important to note that the conditions for swimming and snorkeling can vary. Some visitors have encountered significant swells, especially around Tortola, which might make casual swimming challenging. The beach itself has both sandy and rockier sections, with the middle area often preferred for easier entry into the water. For those interested in observing marine life, checking the local tide forecast, particularly for low tide around 1 PM, can enhance the experience.
Remember to be a responsible visitor when observing marine life. Maintain a respectful distance from sea turtles and avoid touching or disturbing the coral reefs. This ensures the preservation of the delicate ecosystem for future visitors and the animals themselves.
The Unique Plane Spotting Experience
While this offers a novel experience, it's worth considering if the noise or visual presence of planes might detract from a purely serene beach atmosphere for some. However, for many, it's an added point of interest that sets Brewers Bay apart from other beaches. The combination of beach relaxation and aviation activity creates a memorable and often talked-about aspect of visiting this location.
When planning your visit, keep in mind that the airport activity is a constant presence. It doesn't typically deter visitors, but it's a characteristic that contributes to the beach's unique identity. It's a great spot for capturing interesting photos that blend tropical scenery with aviation action.
Local Charm vs. Tourist Amenities
While it offers a local charm, amenities might be more limited or less predictable than at major resorts. Establishments like Nicole's Beach Bar and food trucks are present, offering food and drinks, but their operating hours can vary, and they might not be open early. Some visitors have noted instances where interactions with staff at these establishments were not entirely positive, suggesting a need for flexibility and understanding.
For those who prioritize a genuine local feel and are content with simpler facilities, Brewers Bay is an excellent choice. It's a place to connect with the island's rhythm, enjoy the natural beauty, and perhaps have a more personal interaction with the local culture.
