Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Deer Prairie Creek Preserve North's natural beauty, extensive trails, and abundant wildlife, often preferring it over the southern section. The Myakka River canoe landing is a standout feature. However, the lack of facilities like restrooms and the need for careful navigation due to inconsistent trail marking are noted drawbacks.

"In my opinion this spot is 10x better than Deer Prairie Creek Preserve South because it is much more natural and there is ton of great trail and spots along the beautiful Myakka River for you to see. When hiking in Florida, you want to see the water. This place is huge! I spent four hours inside and only scratched the surface. You would need to come back for multiple visits to see it all. Make sure to get a paper map (which the box isn’t easy to see when you come in,
although I have provided a photo of where it is) and bring plenty of water. The trails are pretty well identified and there are markers, though a few had forks in the road that aren’t very well detailed on the map and I therefore needed to use a compass a couple of times to be sure where I was going. A handful of crossings had standing water and/or mud, but I didn’t have any problems getting by in mid-March. Parking for cars is on the grass as you turn in while horse trailers can park on the gravel. Be sure to visit the canoe landing by trail marker #102 as it is the star of the show! While inside, animals I saw included a feral hog, an armadillo, and black snakes. I would recommend bringing a survival knife along for peace of mind. Cell service was surprisingly good throughout most of my hike as there was a nearby cell tower I could see at one point."

"Beautiful area and scenery, with a lot of different trails to explore. Encountered a few armadillo's, and some orange trees. The trails we're decently large, with a decent amount of label markers throughout. There are no restrooms or out houses here. Dogs are allowed as long as they're leashed the entire time. Horses are also welcome. Upon arrival we were fortunate enough to see some cows grazing, as well as a few donkeys. Over all, this place is very peaceful and somewhere we'll return to."

"Beautiful trails...lots of canopy, wildlife, number of spots that go along the river. Secluded and peaceful. Very extensive...can hike for many miles
