"My son and I went today for the 250th anniversary! We got to see history come to life! Hard to describe how fun it is to see reinactnentments of our country and the true perspective of life back in 1770s.
History is beautiful. The fort is in great condition and all the demonstrations we saw, the stories we took part in were great! Live animals too! Grounds are beautiful and well kept. There is an elevator in the newest exhibit as well for handicap access 🤘
There is a cafe and restaurant on site! Thank god! And the food was really good! I got the mount defiance. A turkey club but in a full sandwich. Perfect. The raspberry lemonade is also, excellent. My son got a root beer float!
Good service and fun views."

"Fort Ticonderoga is a gem. Well kept, with lots of cannons. There are a few employees in colonial clothing to help interpret what we were seeing. The stories are fascinating and it's amazing how many revolutionary figures passed through that fort.
No real crowds the day we visited. Easy parking. Easy access. And, a great experience.
I should add... There is a well stocked gift shop and a dine in eatery in the visitor center. So.... It's easy to just show up and enjoy"

"Interesting history lesson and great reenactments. Make sure you watch the canon firing. Interestingly, historians now think the original fort was made of wood, not stone, so what you are visiting is entirely inaccurate. Fun, nonetheless."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
The Strategic Importance of Fort Ticonderoga
During the French and Indian War, the British attempted to capture Fort Carillon but suffered a significant defeat in the Battle of Carillon in 1758. The fort eventually fell to the British in 1759. Its significance continued into the American Revolution when, in 1775, Ethan Allen, Benedict Arnold, and the Green Mountain Boys famously captured the fort by surprise, marking a crucial early victory for the Continental Army. The fort later changed hands again and was eventually abandoned by the Continental Army in 1777 during the British siege.
Today, Fort Ticonderoga stands as a meticulously reconstructed historical site, offering visitors a tangible connection to these pivotal moments in North American history. The ongoing preservation and interpretation efforts ensure that the fort's strategic importance and the stories of those who fought there are remembered and understood.
Living History and Reenactments
Fort Ticonderoga frequently hosts dramatic reenactments of historical battles and events. These events, often held on weekends during the operating season, bring the fort's history to life with the thunder of cannons and the crackle of muskets. Witnessing these demonstrations provides a visceral understanding of the military tactics and the sheer power involved in 18th-century warfare. Visitors can often get quite close (safely, of course) to the action, making these reenactments a highlight for many.
Beyond the military aspects, reenactors also showcase domestic skills, trades, and the lives of civilians who would have been associated with the fort. This comprehensive approach ensures that visitors get a well-rounded picture of the historical period. It’s a dynamic way to learn, as the interpreters often engage directly with the audience, making history feel personal and accessible.
The Ticonderoga Pencil Phenomenon
This widespread appreciation for Ticonderoga pencils has even led to humorous content, with creators jokingly dedicating fan pages to the brand or expressing their love for the product. Some videos even showcase the 'ideal' Ticonderoga pencil, complete with personalized touches. While seemingly unrelated to the historical fort, this cultural trend underscores the enduring legacy and quality associated with the Ticonderoga name, creating a unique intersection of historical significance and modern-day appreciation.
