What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza is widely praised for its beautiful venue, excellent sound quality, and stellar performances, making it a top choice for entertainment. While most visitors have a great experience, some note that the seating can be cramped and certain performances may be excessively loud.
"My fiance took me to see Chicago in the big theater. We saw Mean Girls in the Little theater. The venue is gorgeous. Well lit. The sound is great. The orchestra was on the stage in Chicago. It was so unique. The performance are always stellar. Each member of the cast is not only good at acting, but at dancing and singing as well. In both theaters I don't think there's really any bad seat. We went to the matinee of Chicago. I prefer a matinee. There was plenty of seeding available."

"While the design of the hall and lobby are very nice, there's a few issues with the theater itself. Others have complained about this before and no changes have been made since, unfortunately.
1. My husband is 5'11" and has a slim build. He struggled to get comfortable with the seat. The seats are oddly tiny and crammed together. There is no dividers on both sides of the rows, so you have to move past so many people. We luckily chose end seats.
2. The speakers are painfully loud. We saw John Cleese's 50th anniversary tour for Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and the sound would blast. It wasn't until the clanking of the knights' armor during their fight scene that our ears were physically hurting. We had to stuff wadded up tissue in our ears to protect them and bring relief. I know we were some of the few younger people there where most seemed 50+, but we've been to plenty of concerts that didn't sound that painful."

Navigating the Theatres: Kavli vs. Forum
In contrast, The Forum Theatre offers a more intimate setting, perfect for smaller productions, comedy shows, lectures, and local talent showcases. This venue allows for a closer connection between performers and the audience, creating a more personal and engaging experience. When choosing a show, consider the nature of the performance and which theatre's atmosphere best suits your preference.
Both theatres boast excellent acoustics and sightlines, ensuring a quality viewing and listening experience. However, as noted by some patrons, the seating in the Kavli Theatre can feel a bit snug, so selecting seats wisely or being prepared for a cozy fit is advisable.
Sound Experience: A Double-Edged Sword
However, a recurring point of feedback is that the sound levels can sometimes be excessively loud, even to the point of causing physical discomfort. One reviewer recounted an experience where the sound during a comedy show was so intense it led to ear pain, necessitating the use of earplugs.
If you are sensitive to loud noises or attending a performance known for its high volume, it's wise to come prepared. Bringing earplugs or discussing seating arrangements with the box office might help mitigate any potential discomfort and ensure you can fully enjoy the show without auditory strain.
The Civic Arts Plaza Experience: Beyond the Show
