What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Woodlands Golf Course offers a beautiful Sandbelt-style layout with challenging bunkering and scenic views. However, recent privatization has significantly restricted public access, requiring Sunriver Resort rentals or membership, and leading to some negative feedback regarding customer service and exclusivity.
"A beautiful course in a beautiful place! We were fortunate to stay in an Air BnB right on the course. We came out and played a few holes. Course was in great shape for rainy mid November in Oregon. What a beautiful place."
Payton Humphrey
"What a snooty establishment, everything that turns people away from the game. Bad customer service, too good for you attitude and an average course at best. Spend your money at one of the many other courses in Central Oregon. This place gives golf a bad reputation!"
L Scittie
"Always come down here with the family to golf and use the driving range for a birthday vacation. We found out this year after arriving that it had been privatized and we are no longer allowed to use the course unless we rent from Sunriver resort properties or pay a membership fee with a $15,000 (yes thousand) dollar down payment. The employee was rude and dismissive and wouldn’t even let us use the driving range which is ridiculous on top of everything. Save your money and golf elsewhere, terrible decision by the management."

Understanding the Privatization
This change has been met with disappointment from long-time visitors and families who relied on the course for their traditions. The new model emphasizes membership or rentals through Sunriver Resort properties, effectively closing the doors to many casual golfers.
For those considering a visit, it's crucial to verify current access policies directly with Sunriver Resort. Understanding these new requirements will help manage expectations and avoid potential disappointment upon arrival.
The Sandbelt Style Experience
This design presents a unique challenge for golfers. The impressive bunkering requires careful shot selection, while the waste areas can be penalizing if you stray offline. Mastering these elements is key to scoring well on the course. The overall aesthetic is one of rugged beauty, blending seamlessly with the surrounding environment.
Golfers who appreciate strategic course design and a challenging, yet visually appealing, round often find Sandbelt-style courses like Woodlands to be a rewarding experience. It's a test of skill and course management, offering a different flavor of golf compared to more traditional parkland layouts.
