What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Grand Mere State Park's stunning natural beauty, particularly its towering sand dunes and secluded Lake Michigan beach. The hike to the beach is often described as rewarding, offering a sense of accomplishment and leading to a peaceful, less-crowded experience. Some note the need for preparedness due to limited amenities and potential for hot sand and bugs.
"Somewhat secluded beach and beautiful nature trail. Saw a few turtles along the way and the turtle tracks in the sand were neat to see. Be prepared for a hike through some dunes. If you can do the hike, it is definitely worth it. We went later in the day and the bugs were after us, maybe plan to bring some bug spray. The sand gets HOT so be prepared for that. Overall, definitely recommend coming if you can."

"Words cannot describe how wonderfully beautiful this place is, absolutely gorgeous!!!! Love hiking the trails and relaxing on the beach. Probably not the best place for the Sunday cooler parties but perfect for solo trail blazers!! P.S. the seagulls name is Captain💖🪽🌊"

"The trail’s inauspicious start might fool you into thinking that the hike isn’t worthwhile. It doesn’t seem maintained at all compared to other more popular parks, but don’t be fooled: less than half a mile in, the uneven asphalt gives way to sand dunes (nowhere near the difficulty of Sleeping Bear). After a brief scramble through the dunes, you’re welcomed by the cool pristine waters of Lake Michigan, and no crowds. Not much in the way of amenities, so pack your own drinks and snacks. Relaxation awaits."
