Took a trip to Meltzer Woods. I missed a pic of the one room school house that has a book exchange program. There's walking trails, a pumpkin patch, a crop circle corn maze, a teepee and an original building used to make muzzle load guns and/or ammunition. Alot of great history. And of course, no trip would be complete without the sunset. Go check it out! #meltzerwoods #Meltzer #walkingtrai...

Reviews Summary

Meltzer Woods is praised as a pleasant, quiet nature preserve with beautiful old-growth trees and well-maintained trails featuring bridges and boardwalks. Visitors appreciate the historic schoolhouse book exchange and seasonal attractions like the corn maze and pumpkin patch. Some note that trails can be muddy after rain and cell service is unreliable.

"This 60-acre preserve is completely forested with a small creek going through it.

A gravel parking lot for 20+ vehicles is on the north side of the road. Important: the public land is on the south side of the road.

A single trailhead is directly across from the parking exit on the west end of the preserve. Signage is good. The trail sign says it is a 1.3 mile loop. I think includes a spur trail. The main loop seemed to be about 1 mile.

I visited as a birder and was able to record 20-25 species. It is a large enough preserve to discern separate territories for birds.

I did not have cell service in the woods.

No toilet."

"This old growth forest nature preserve was a pleasant surprise. Starting with the well maintained parking lot.All 1.3 miles of the trail in great shape. There are many bridges and boardwalks on this flat trail. The old trees are huge with lots of under growth and wildflowers from early spring to late fall."

Jim Duncan

"Nice local hike in the woods. Be ready I counted over 12 trees down across the trail. The boardwalk has been thrown all around too due to the recent storms. My dogs loved jumping on and over all the trees. My youngest dog investigated every puddle fully!"
