What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Rocky Branch Recreation Area for its stunning lake views and updated campsite features, particularly in the lower section. However, some find the campsites to be too close together and note the inconvenience of limited water hookups and a centrally located shower house. The overgrown paths to the water are also a minor drawback for some.
"The lower section has been updated in recent years with new site frames and table pavilions which are very nice. The views are incredible overlooking the lake. Definitely one of my favorite sites in the area minus the no water at each site. Also only one shower house up at the entrance near the dump station. Tiny playground in the upper section. The camp host was delightful and very knowledgeable about the sites and the area. Overall 9/10, would visit again!"

"Rocky Branch has sentialment meaning to me. We've camped at Beaver most of my life and 60% of it was at Rocky Branch. After camping at Lost Bridge south the last 15ish years, we decided to try Rocky Branch again. Boy, we're we disappointed.
Don't get me wrong, the camping sites were nice and level, but they are stacked on top of each other. The bushes are overgrown and the bathroom could use an upgrade.
If the bathroom had 4 stalls with showers like Lost Bridge and toilets that flush without hitting the handle at least 3 times, it would be so much better. A water sticker at each campsite would be awesome and add a sewer to each campsite and it would perfect.
The campsites are close to the water, giving a beautiful water view to almost every site. The path to the water would be much improved with the bushes were trimmed down.
As it sits now, be sure and fill up your water tanks before you park. There are a few water stickers scattered around but not real convenient."

Camping Experience at Rocky Branch
Some visitors have noted that campsites can be quite close together, and overgrown bushes may impact privacy and access to the water's edge. While the park staff is generally praised for being knowledgeable and delightful, the condition of some facilities, like the pit toilets, could benefit from upgrades. The single shower house, though described as fairly new and clean, is located centrally and may require a walk from certain camping loops. Despite these points, the overall sentiment leans positive for those seeking a scenic lakeside camping getaway.
Key takeaways for campers: Plan for water management, be prepared for potentially close neighbors, and enjoy the stunning natural scenery. The proximity to the historic War Eagle Mill also adds an extra layer of interest for visitors.
Navigating Amenities and Facilities
The shower house is a significant facility, described as fairly new and clean with good hot water, featuring two shower stalls on each side. However, its central location means it's not directly attached to any camping loop, requiring a walk. Reviewers suggest doing your business before heading for a shower. For restroom needs within the camping loops, pit toilets are available, though some feedback indicates they could be improved.
Despite these considerations, the updated picnic tables and firepits with cooking surfaces are appreciated. The presence of good cellular service, as noted during a mid-October visit, is a bonus for those needing to stay connected.
