What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the First Congregational Church for its deeply welcoming and compassionate community, highlighting its inclusive atmosphere and the impactful outreach programs like Project Food and free health clinics. The beautiful historic architecture is also a significant draw, making it a cherished landmark in Riverside.
"In a warm and welcoming community of compassionate people, Pastor Kristen focuses on God's enduring, unending, and anything-is-possible LOVE. I feel lifted every week---and who doesn't need that? If you're looking for a service opportunity, FCC's Project Food serves our un-housed and/or under-resourced neighbors via Project Food each week (photo from Undie Sunday kick-off, where we collected undergarments for those in need). The church also hosts UCR's medical clinic and other medical testing on site every month."

"This church has been a game-changer for my family and me and our spiritual health.
My partner and I grew up in different Christian-based denominations, but wanted to find a church in Riverside that was openly LGBTQ friendly, had a mid-sized and welcoming community, and had low-pressure opportunities to serve. This historic church has been everything we hoped it would be. It seems like service is between 80 and sometimes maybe over 120 on a special day; so, room to stay anonymous (if you want) but small enough that people will greet you warmly. As you would expect there are plenty of people over 55, but surprisingly there is a growing number of young families. Most everyone I meet is very educated, kind, and just plain interesting.
On Wednesdays they sponsor a ministry that serves free dinner and clothing to the downtown community. The church partners with local colleges to become a completely free medical clinic that has free dental, medical, HIV testing, and counseling twice a month.
There whole message here is that "everyone is welcome here," and from what I have seen everyone REALLY IS and it is SO refreshing to be around genuinely kind people who just want to spread God's love.
ALSO, street parking is FREE on Sundays."
