The friendly and knowledgeable staff, along with the rare white prairie dogs, add to the charm. While some find it a bit pricey for a short visit, most agree it's a worthwhile and informative stop.
"Fun place to visit. It was a little pricey, but they did give us a discount for seniors. You can see white prairie dogs here, which is the only place you can see them. The museum is interesting, as there is a sod house and some other buildings used during the early prairie times. The staff were friendly and provided some additional information. There’s a place where you can put on some Prairie clothing to take pictures while you visit."

"I had an amazing visit to the Prairie Homestead. The place feels like a genuine step back in time, with an authentic sod home that’s over a century old. The original artifacts—like the furniture, personal items, and even the old wood-burning stove—make it feel like the original owners just stepped out for a moment. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and the admission was really affordable. Overall, it’s definitely worth a visit!"

"Visited here on 6/21/25
Came here after doing Badlands Helicopter Tour and Badlands Ranch Store earlier in the morning.
Visitor Center has a fairly nice selection of clothing and other items for reasonable prices.
As part of tour, you are able to watch a quick video in a small room inside the building.
Once outside, you can see the sod home which offered a unique experience.
Don’t forget to press the button by the home to hear more history while you’re exploring!
Outside you can also see a “root cellar” that was used for food storage. The outhouse is very funny, you’ll see when you open the door.
Worthy stop for 20-30 minutes."
