Every Friday evening Philly’s Rodin Museum has a popup garden party! It’s right on the parkway. They serve wine, beer, hard seltzer, soft drinks, and snacks. It’s totally free to enjoy the gardens and you can wander in and out of the gardens. The museum was open but because I brought my kids I didn’t go in except to use the restroom. Discovering lesser known museums like the @museebourdelle is one of my current favorite pastimes. Bourdelle was an assistant of the more famous sculptor, Auguste Rodin. And while the Rodin museum is completely worth visiting, I think I’d prefer an afternoon here instead. The Bourdelle museum, located in his old studio and home, is such a gem with a shockingly gorgeous sculpture garden, a room desi...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Rodin Museum for its stunning collection of sculptures, both indoors and in its beautifully maintained garden. The peaceful atmosphere and the opportunity for creative engagement, like sketching, are frequently highlighted as positive aspects. While the garden is a major draw, the indoor galleries offer a profound artistic experience, with knowledgeable guides enhancing the visit.

"The Rodin museum is actually beautiful inside and out. The outdoor grounds feature beautiful ponds sculptures and has some tables for people to sit and enjoy the views around them. We have had lunch there many times. Inside features loads of amazing art and sculptures. It is right down the road the Philadelphia Art museum and right near center city. Definitely worth the visit"

"The Rodin Museum is a must-visit for any art enthusiast. Home to one of the largest collections of works by Auguste Rodin outside of Paris, it’s a peaceful and inspiring spot nestled within a beautifully landscaped garden. Walking through the grounds in spring, surrounded by blooming flowers and striking outdoor sculptures, was an experience in itself.

Inside the museum, one of my favorite features was the invitation to pick up a sketchbook and create your own drawing inspired by the sculptures. It’s a simple yet meaningful interactive element that made me feel connected to the art in a whole new way. I loved leaving behind my own sketch—it felt like a small creative contribution to a place full of masterpieces."

"Do you need to go to the Museum when you have 'the Thinker' cast sculpture outside and can see the museum and garden through the gates?

That was the question I was pondering when visiting the outside. I saw a lot of people standing outside making pictures. So if you are on a budget for culture, I would not recommend this and go to another museum.

Rodin is amazing but it has stiff competition with museums nearby. Besides, the most famous statue is outside the museum."

Auguste Rodin: The Master Sculptor

Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) is widely regarded as the progenitor of modern sculpture. His innovative approach broke away from classical traditions, infusing his works with raw emotion, psychological depth, and a sense of movement. Rodin's ability to capture the human form in states of intense feeling—from agony to ecstasy—revolutionized the art world. His most famous pieces, like 'The Thinker' and 'The Gates of Hell,' are not just representations but powerful explorations of the human condition. TikTok+1

The Rodin Museum in Philadelphia houses an exceptional collection, second only to the Musée Rodin in Paris. This collection includes nearly 150 works, showcasing Rodin's mastery in bronze, marble, and plaster. Visitors can witness the evolution of his iconic pieces, such as different casts of 'The Thinker' and the original design that inspired it, offering a unique perspective on his creative process. InstagramReddit

Beyond his most famous works, Rodin also explored themes of love, mortality, and the divine. His collaborations and relationships, notably with Camille Claudel, also add layers to his artistic legacy. The museum provides context for these aspects, allowing visitors to appreciate the full scope of Rodin's genius and his lasting impact on art history. TikTokReddit

The Rodin Museum's outdoor sculpture garden is a significant part of the visitor experience, often described as a Parisian paradise right in Philadelphia. It's a beautifully landscaped space featuring numerous bronze and marble sculptures by Rodin, set amidst tranquil ponds and lush greenery. This serene environment provides a perfect backdrop for appreciating the art in a more relaxed, open-air setting. TikTokReddit

During warmer months, the garden transforms on Friday evenings into a lively social hub with the Garden Bar. Visitors can enjoy wine, beer, and light bites while surrounded by art and often accompanied by live music. This popular event, highlighted in many social media posts, offers a unique way to experience the museum's grounds and connect with others. TikTokInstagram

It’s a place for quiet contemplation, artistic inspiration, and enjoying the beauty of both art and nature. Many visitors find the garden to be as captivating as the indoor galleries. TikTokReddit

Beyond the Famous Sculptures

While 'The Thinker' and 'The Gates of Hell' are undeniable draws, the Rodin Museum offers a wealth of other compelling works. Explore pieces like 'The Kiss,' a tender marble depiction of lovers, or 'The Burghers of Calais,' a powerful monument to civic courage. The museum's collection spans Rodin's career, showcasing his evolution and diverse thematic interests. Reddit

One particularly engaging aspect highlighted by visitors is the opportunity to engage creatively. Some reviews mention being invited to pick up a sketchbook and draw inspiration directly from the sculptures. This interactive element fosters a deeper connection with the art, turning a passive viewing into an active artistic experience. Reddit

Don't overlook the historical context provided within the museum.
