What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the sanctuary's primitive, natural charm and abundant wildlife, offering a peaceful escape. However, some find the trails poorly marked and the marshy areas challenging. The lack of paved paths and the prohibition of dogs are noted drawbacks for some.
"As mentioned by others, the back side of trail is basically marsh. It's beautiful hardwoods, but mucky, snakey walking. Trail not marked well. A lot of different off shoots and deer trails. The good news, they all lead back to the same place. So I suggest just making this sanctuary less of a perfect 3 mile hike and more of a curious exploration of the wildlife area. It was more fun and easier hiking when I made my own trail on the backside. I would definitely use the trail if I lived close by for short river walks, but doubt I would drive specifically to hike it again."

"Pretty place but doesn’t allow dogs. Disappointed after driving from Madison"
Sarah Weaver
"This place is great! As someone else described it, it's very primitive. No paved walkways. Just dirt/rocks/grass. Lots of wildlife out here. Saw a big heron in the lake, heard a owl hooting in a tree, and saw a muskrat in the lake. Trail is very flat and easy. Just wear good shoes and watch out for ticks."
