Reviews Summary
Chepstow is appreciated for its intimate feel and historical furnishings, offering a glimpse into a more recent Gilded Age lifestyle. While it lacks the grandeur of larger Newport mansions, its guided tours and well-maintained grounds are highlights. Some visitors found the tours a bit rushed or the guides arrogant, and booking timed tickets in advance is crucial.
"We toured this property on August 2nd, 2025. Chepstow does not have the rock star status of the Breakers or Marble House, but it is every bit worth a visit. Due to its smaller size, and the way it is furnished , it feels comfortable and livable. We enjoyed discovering the history of many of the objects, as well as of the people who lived there. You will find the place just as it was left by the last occupants. The tour is guided, so you'll be shown around by an actual person- no ear buds or paper to follow. You may ask questions along the way, which the guide is happy to answer. We purchased tickets in advance on line, and today I learned that it is not necessary to bring printed copies-you only need to show your emailed version with bar code. Before leaving, we wandered the grounds, taking time to marvel at some of the trees, especially one in particular, which was enormous. Definitely recommend."

"Worth seeing. I agree with other reviews that this house doesn't evoke the grandeur that the mansions do. Always thought this was more of a "society house" than a mansion. Tour guide was great. Tours groups are 10 people and the size of the group and the size of the house makes it difficult to navigate. Glad I finally got to see this house."

"Really cool place, but not Newport Mansiony at all. You need to get your tickets in advance, and they are really of no help at all in that department. They kept trying to get us to go to the Breakers to book the tour instead of helping us book the tour there. Said it was easier to go the Breakers. I said, "easier for who?" That seemed to quite them down. Hubby ended up figuring it out without their assistance. The tour guide was ok. She had such an arrogant air about her. Answered everyone's questions, though. There is no gift shop at this location. There is a restroom. Grounds are well maintained."
