Ruthie Elizabeth

"Probably the least known bridge across the Willamette, until the completion of a new span in 1958, this bridge carried Highway 219.
The bridge now carries a pipeline.
I'm not sure when this bridge was built but, I'm guessing 1920s or 1930s. A ferry used to carry vehicles across the river prior to this span being constructed."

A Bridge Through Time

The Newberg Bridge holds a quiet significance in the history of the Willamette River crossings. Before the construction of a newer span in 1958, this bridge was a crucial artery, carrying Highway 219. Its existence signifies a period when infrastructure development was rapidly shaping the region's connectivity. Travelers who appreciate local history might find it interesting to note that a ferry service likely operated in the area prior to this bridge's construction, highlighting the evolution of transportation in Newberg. Reddit

Today, the bridge serves a different, yet equally important, purpose: transporting a pipeline. While it's no longer a route for vehicles or pedestrians, its presence continues to be a landmark on the Willamette. Its design, likely dating back to the 1920s or 1930s, offers a visual contrast to more modern structures, providing a unique aesthetic for those who observe it from the water. Reddit
