What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners consistently praise Commander's Palace for its exceptional service, elegant ambiance, and delicious Creole cuisine, particularly the legendary Bread Pudding Soufflé. The 25-cent martini lunch is a unique highlight. While most reviews are glowing, some guests have found the dress code enforcement a bit uncomfortable.
"We dined at Commander’s Palace with a group of four, and from start to finish, it was an exceptional experience. Reservations are definitely recommended—this place is popular for a reason.
The service was truly the best I’ve ever experienced. From the moment we sat down, the staff made us feel like VIPs. Chairs were pulled out for us, and there were dedicated servers for drinks and food. Every dish was brought out at the same time, with multiple staff coordinating to place each plate down simultaneously. Even the drink server meticulously cleaned the table with a small food pickup tool and replaced entire water glasses rather than just refilling them. It’s those small, thoughtful touches that really set this place apart.
The ambiance was elegant yet inviting, with warm lighting, tasteful wallpaper, and comfortable seating. Dressing up is encouraged, and it adds to the classic New Orleans fine dining charm.
Another fun touch: they wrap up your leftovers in foil—and shape it into a swan, which was such a delightful surprise!
As for the food, I personally loved my meal, though a couple of my friends were a bit more critical of their choices. Still, the quality and presentation were excellent overall.
If you’re in New Orleans and want a special dining experience, Commander’s Palace is absolutely worth a visit."

"The food was excellent—we tried several of their signature dishes and thoroughly enjoyed them. Be aware that reservations are required, and the restaurant enforces a dress code. While I understand the need for dress codes in clubs, I’ve never quite grasped why they’re necessary for dining establishments. I was also asked to remove my cap at the reception, which I personally found uncomfortable.
That said, the dining experience itself was outstanding. The quality of the food made the trip from Charlotte absolutely worthwhile."

"Excellent restaurant - the service and food were phenomenal! One of our favorites in New Orleans. The moment you enter, the staff was incredibly welcoming. They went above and beyond to make sure our experience was exceptional. The food was immaculate especially the soups and desserts (not pictured because we ate them too fast). Highly recommend stopping by this place for an incredible NOLA dining experience."
