Visitors consistently praise the absolutely beautiful and breathtaking 360-degree summit views on Mount Ida. The chance to see wildlife and hike a section of the Continental Divide Trail are major draws. However, the hike is strenuous, with high altitude, significant exposure, and very windy conditions, especially in the afternoon. Early morning starts are highly recommended to avoid potential storms.
"Came in the summer. Absolutely beautiful, with the chance of seeing Pikas, Marmots, Elks and Bighorn Sheep. Remember to stay on the trail to avoid damaging the tundra and its flowers. Come early to avoid the crowd and potential rain in the afternoon. Big thanks to H for guiding us."

"This hike has beautiful 360 degrees views for miles! It’s breathtaking, quite literally, because you start at high elevation and have to climb even higher. Make sure you are used to the altitude before doing this one. We arrived at the parking lot around 8AM and there were plenty of spots. The path was easy to follow for the most part and I recommend using Alltrails to navigate. There’s a couple of rock scrambles but you can still find your way to the top pretty easily. As mentioned by others, it is a very exposed and windy hike. I wore three warm layers and mittens and was very happy I had them. The wind also picks up towards the afternoon, so I recommend starting in the early morning. It took us about 6 hours to complete this hike, excluding lunch!"

"We did this hike mid September and gloves, hat and windbreaker are highly recommended. Our passes didn’t allow us to start this hike till almost 11 am and we get caught in the afternoon storms of high wind, rain and sleet. So highly suggested to start in the morning. The last mile of the hike is climbing over boulders and mostly straight up the mountain. With all that being said once you get to the top it’s well worth it. Best views on the whole park."
