What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Savoy Theatre is lauded for its charming art-house cinema experience, featuring unique film selections and cozy seating, particularly the downstairs couches. While the theatre's historic architecture and friendly staff are highlights, some visitors note that the cinema's popcorn could be improved.
"A nice art house film theater.
Their concession offers beer, wine, cider, prosecco, snacks and organic popcorn made with safflower oil (with optional topping of either real butter or nutritional yeast). My only criticism is that the popcorn could be better. It was stale last time, tasted like it was made earlier in the day.
There’s two screens: one upstairs, and a smaller, more intimate room downstairs with plush couches for seating. The couches weird me out a bit as they’re obviously hard to keep clean (there’s a lot of people in this town with cats and those that prefer not to shower on a regular basis), but the sofas are comfortable to sit in, so there’s that.
They show a lot of obscure movies not found elsewhere, and host special screenings with lectures. They’re also a mainstay for the Green Mountain Film Festival.
The staff is always helpful and lovely. Just please improve the popcorn."

"Great little theatre, clean, comfortable seats and they play the best movies! We just saw Godzilla and it was amazing; thank you Savoy Theatre! We'll be back despite the hour+ drive, candy it was a treat to have a dry hard cider during the movie!
It's fun to visit beautiful Montpelier and get a delicious meal and fancy coffee before the movie, make a day of it!"
Jen B.
"I've been going to the movies at the Savoy since it opened. The reorganization of the downstairs theater after the July 2023 flood has been a substantial improvement. The buttered popcorn, dusted with nutritional yeast, continues to be a showtime treat."
