What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Moxham Mountain is a highly recommended Adirondack hike, praised for its spectacular summit views and frequent scenic overlooks. Hikers appreciate the moderate terrain, soft footing, and well-maintained trail, making it a rewarding experience for beginners and families. While the access road can be steep, the overall consensus is that this hidden gem offers major rewards for a modest effort.
"Moxham Mountain is a nice and relaxing hike in Minerva, NY. The summit has spectacular views of the surrounding Adirondack Mountains. The trail is new, relatively speaking, as it was built in 2012. Altogether, the five mile long round trip hike goes over fairly moderate terrain.
The trailhead is located off a dirt road and has parking for about 10 vehicles in two different parking areas off the road. Near the trailhead you must locate the trail with yellow markers to proceed to the summit. There are some other herd paths near the parking lots. The trail is easy to follow and has soft footing for almost the entire way up. On the trail you will go through some wetlands, cross brooks, and walk right by lots of mossy strewn glacial boulders
As you get closer to the top you will notice there are many overlooks. The overlooks have nice scenery and there are very few mountains in the Adirondacks that provide so many nice views before the summit is reached. As you get closer to the summit you will notice the large cliffs off the side of the summit.
The summit does not have a 360 view, but it is still spectacular. Gore Mountain ski area with its fire tower can also be easily spotted. Barton Mines near Ruby Mountain can easily be seen. You can see nearby Clear, Fuller, and Long Ponds. In the distance Snowy Mountain can be spotted.
Compared to other Adirondack Mountain hikes this one has soft footing, no very steep parts, no ladders, and produces a nice reward at the end. This mountain also seldom sees the crowds that the Adirondack High Peaks draw. The bottom line is that it is a modest hike that has major rewards. Give it a shot."

"One of my favorite shorter ADK hikes. The trail is fairly gradual except for a few spots, and the views are breathtaking - plus there seems to be a scenic spot every few hundred feet or so. Main takeaway is that this trail is not monotonous or boring in any section - there’s always something to see. The trail is also surprisingly well maintained and well marked, especially for Adirondack standards. Good for beginners. It seems to be a hidden gem of sorts, as I had the trail mostly to myself on a Saturday in late April. The only caution I would give is that there is a fairly steep dirt road for the last quarter mile down to the trailhead parking. Overall, fantastic trail and a lot of fun. In total, I clocked 5.4 miles and 1400 ft of elevation gain."

"If you're looking for a true ADK experience, this is one of them.
Keep going past the false summits, their views are amazing but the final summit view is one of the best views in the lower ADKs."
