What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Orchard Beach State Park is lauded for its stunning Lake Michigan bluff views and exceptionally clean facilities, particularly its restrooms and showers. While beach access is currently closed due to erosion and some campsites are small and close together, visitors appreciate the peaceful atmosphere and the park's appeal to anglers. The helpful staff also contribute to a positive camping experience.
"Great park with amazing views of Lake Michigan. Beach Access is closed due to erosion. Trails are close by and you can choose how far you want to hike. Site 126 isn't level and if it rains it's quite messy. Lots of the sites are very close and most people park parallel to their site. There's also a few doggy stations for convenience. Baths and showers were super clean, water pressure was the best we've seen in SPs. Overall really nice stay, staff was super helpful as we added another night. Would definitely return but to a different site."

"Wonderful SP! First visit! It’s small and it’s a fisherman’s campground! Sits on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan! Had an incident with our trailer during the night due to a storm and next morning we needed help as we had damage to our place! Four young fisherman (Angels!!!) an answer to prayer helped us! Thank you again guys! May you be blessed as you blessed us by saying “yes, we will help you when we were in great need”"

"The park seems to be a large campground. The view was nice, but all the trails leading to the water have been closed or removed. We had a nice hike on the trail, but there aren't any views of the water on that hike."

Exploring Lake Michigan's Shoreline
For those interested in fishing, the park is recognized as a 'fisherman's campground.' While there are no piers directly at the campsite, the opportunity to fish from the shore of Lake Michigan is a significant draw for many visitors. This often involves casting lines directly into the lake from the shoreline, requiring appropriate gear and an understanding of lake fishing conditions.
Even with the beach access challenges, the park's connection to Lake Michigan remains its defining feature. The sheer scale and beauty of the lake are palpable from the park's bluffs, offering a serene and picturesque environment for all who visit.
Camping Comforts: Facilities and Sites
When it comes to campsites, it's important to note that many are on the smaller side and can be quite close to neighboring sites. Some reviewers mention that parking is often parallel to the site, and certain spots, like #126, may not be level and can become muddy after rain. This means that visitors with larger RVs or trailers should carefully consider their site selection and perhaps book in advance to ensure a suitable spot. The park also provides convenient doggy stations throughout the campground.
Despite the potential for tighter spacing, the overall camping experience is often described as pleasant, especially given the high standard of the facilities. The park's helpful staff also contribute to a positive stay, with some visitors noting their willingness to accommodate extended stays.

Manistee boasts a variety of dining options, ranging from casual eateries to establishments offering views of the Manistee River or Lake Michigan. The proximity to Manistee adds a layer of convenience and opportunity for exploration beyond the park's boundaries.
