What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Nordhouse Dunes as a hidden gem with stunning sunsets and a unique beachside camping experience. While the sandy hikes can be strenuous, the reward is often solitude and the feeling of having the vast Lake Michigan shoreline to yourself. Some find it crowded on weekends, but venturing further often leads to peaceful seclusion.
"Easy hiking trails. We setup our tent about 400 feet from Lake Michigan and watched the beautiful sunset. It was a little crowded on the weekend, but we found a nice area to camp hiking a little further along the lake."
Northern “uptrail71” Outdoors
"What a special spot. Depending on which trail you take… it’s like a “choose your own adventure”. So much fun, such a magical day of hiking. I highly recommended, no matter how long or short a hike you take!"
Amanda Kilroe
"A beautiful area. Backpacking through the sand is slow and reasonably tough. You can walk along the waterline for a much easier (although less visually interesting) trip. Was here 4th of July weekend, and although the trailhead parking lot was full, there was little activity on the main trail to the beach. Once at the beach, maybe ten people were within sight. After hiking another couple miles south, though, there was no one to be seen. If you walk along the water, you might come across someone once an hour or so, but if you are inland I wouldn't expect to encounter anyone at all."
