"This is a strikingly beautiful facility. Co-located with the permanent site of the PA Renaissance Fair, it is a lovely venue.
Unfortunately, our experience at a Muder Mystery Lunch proved that beauty is skin deep. Mt Hope is a winery without a vineyard. So they buy grape juice to create fruit juice concoctions that might be liquid and served from bottles, but it isn't wine. Just as honey mixed with fruit juice isn't mead.
The Murder Mystery production was not engaging or unique. Several cast members had agonizing stretching voices that were impossible to understand.
The four course meal was indescribable. The meal opened with a soft cheese spread and four crackers. Followed by a wilted salad. Then the main entree, sliced turkey with cream sauce over grits. The only saving grace was the pecan pie and some extraordinary biscuit that were as good and the other courses were un-good.
We might go back to Mt Hope for the fair but we will avoid the winery and the mansion."
