What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Water Canyon Recreation Area for its peaceful, secluded campsites and beautiful natural scenery, including wildlife sightings. However, the challenging, rocky road to the campground and the lack of water and hookups are significant drawbacks for some, requiring thorough preparation.
"From entrance to the campground pin on Google there are several off road picnic table and campsites, some with gazebo. we found a spot 2 mins away from that pin. The view is good. And you can see deer family walking by. There's a littler river along the road. As a free dry campsite everything is good enough. We arrived on thr first Saturday night of Oct, not very crowded, even though we camped right next to the road, the noise from passing by vehicles are not a problem at all. The trail are well maintained. And also just 15 min drive away from Winemucca town. The public restroom doesn't have water, just a hole. Hope to have a manual water pump for wahsing hands or flushing out RV suich. No light at night time, better arrive and finish setting up before sunset. Strongly Recommended!"

"Loved this place! Peaceful, quiet, clean restrooms, bear proof trash receptacles. No water, electric or dump station so arrive with what you need. The hill up to the campground is sketchy. I have a Class C and I'm a relatively new full timer and I thought it was scary. Once you start up, there's no turning back and when I was about to leave, I started out of the campground and someone was pulling in with a truck and a pretty long trailer... I'd say like a 24'. If I had started down and he and I met...🤯😱 (Added photos...don't know where they went!)"

"Somewhat rocky road up to the campsite, but it is absolutely worth it. Sedans and large RVs were seen up there, so it’s very drivable. Beautiful area and clean vault toilets, just make sure to bring all of your own water.
Sites are shady and feel secluded. Cannot recommend it enough.
We had extremely patchy Verizon reception, so just know that before going."

It's advisable to assess your vehicle's capabilities and your comfort level with such terrain before committing to the ascent.
