What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the LLNL Discovery Center an interesting and educational stop, particularly for its focus on LLNL's scientific contributions like fusion energy. While praised for its hands-on exhibits and free admission, some reviewers note its small size and wish for more content. The need for adult ID and careful navigation to the site are key practical considerations.
"It was a relatively interesting museum, though its overall size and scope was rather lackluster. We were the only visitors there at the time, so it was rather quiet and peaceful. We were given a pamphlet with a map on it, though it seemed kind of redundant considering that the entire discovery center was only about the size of a family living room.
Still, it was interesting to learn about some of the functions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. They had an actual used fuel capsule from the lab’s inertial confinement fusion reactor there on display, as well as a mockup of the fusion reactor in the center of the room.
All in all, the experience was interesting, though I just wish they had more to see and do."

"An absolute must-visit small museum for young children & teens & adults of all ages to learn and appreciate the wide array of historical & modern day contributions to science & technology from the Lawrence Livermore National Labs. You could easily spend time from 20 minutes to well over an hour there, interacting with a variety of exhibits & topics that are both fun & educational. The young lady at the check-in desk on our party-of-5's visit in mid-week was very welcoming & professional; groups visiting should anticipate up to a 10-minute processing time to enter the compact exhibit space, and be sure to bring the personal ID described on the Museum website for your check-in (as the facility is on U.S. government property). Also be careful to follow the LLNL roadside signs carefully on approach to your destination, as the Center is hidden among several other small buildings in cul-de-sac compound with lots of vegetation; if you turn off Greenville Rd. and see a security gate with checkpoint, you turned too soon (or too late)."

"A bit of a wait to get checked in, but very interesting site to visit and learn more about projects at the lab. This is the only spot on the campus that people who are not affiliated with LLNL can explore without special clearance, so it's definitely worth the stop."
