Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Centennial Light Bulb a fascinating historical curiosity and a symbol of endurance, appreciating the chance to see the world's longest-lasting light bulb and interact with dedicated firefighters. While some note its dim light and lack of typical tourist amenities, most agree it's a unique and worthwhile stop for its historical significance and community charm.

"My daughter read about this in a completely unrelated blog and when she looked it up, she got hooked. So when we were going from San Francisco to Kings Canyon and Sequoia national park we had to make spa stop. We were lucky as staff was around to share some of its history. We also had a nice chat about the fire apparatuses and how they use them as well the shifts they have (48 up, 96 off) versus sour local department who does 24 up and 96 off. Livermore handles about ten calls a day and has 4 people always on duty who are thus kept quite busy. Don’t forget the fill the boot as every fire department can always do more with better funding."

"Don't be scared to ring the doorbell to see the bulb if the door isn't open, they get visitors everyday and are use to it and they're very friendly. Plus, you get to sign the guest book once inside."

David Beebe

"Some may say this is just an old lightbulb but to the city of Livermore and the firefighters inside this building it is a beacon of light that shines down on the firefighters that protect the city. The lightbulb is more than just a good luck charm to them. This lightbulb represents over 120 years of brotherhood. The lightbulb watches over the firefighters and the firefighters watch over the lightbulb. Quick facts: The lightbulb was first turned on in 1901. The lightbulb was moved to three different fire houses. The lightbulb was manufactured by Shelby lamp company in Ohio. The Guinness book of world records regularly checks in on the lightbulb to confirm that it is still the longest burning lightbulb in the world."
