Reviews Summary

Boone's Cave Park is praised for its scenic river trails, impressive ancient Cottonwood tree, and free admission, making it a great spot for families and dog owners. However, visitors note that the cave itself has limited access and that the numerous stairs can be challenging.

"Decided to explore the area with my dog. The park has multiple sets of stairs that lead to the cave that overlooked the Yadkin River. At the bottom you can walk along the river and it leads to a few different trails. One trail, Cottonwood, leads you way back along the river to a huge Cottonwood tree that is probably 5 or 6 feet wide and over 150 tall. If I recall correctly it's like 125 years old or more. There are multiple other trails that are clean, wide and easy to walk on. It was a great place to spend the afternoon."

Mark Spencer

"Loved the trails alongside the river here. There's a lot of steps (not the ones pictured)leading down to the cave site and some trails could be considered more difficult, but great place to take the family and take in nature."

Heather Morris

"Lots of rain lately so the river was still a bit high and very muddy but the woods area were nice. I imagine it's super nice when there aren't flood waters. Boone's Cave isn't much of a cave, more a deep overhang, but enough to shelter several people. An ungodly number if steps to get down to it, then I discovered the walking trail that came in from the opposite direction of the stairs and parking lot where my car was... oh well"

Exploring Boone's Cave and its History

Boone's Cave Park is named for its association with Daniel Boone, a legendary American frontiersman. While the 'cave' itself is more accurately described as a deep overhang or rock shelter, it holds historical significance as a potential refuge or landmark for Boone and early settlers. Visitors can access the area near the overhang by descending numerous stairs to the Yadkin River. However, it's important to note that much of the cave's interior has been closed off with steel bars, limiting exploration beyond the immediate entrance. TikTokReddit

Despite the restricted cave access, the park offers a rich natural experience. The Yadkin River provides a scenic backdrop, with trails winding along its banks. These trails are generally well-maintained and offer opportunities for walking, hiking, and enjoying the riparian environment. The park's secluded nature makes it a peaceful escape for those looking to connect with the outdoors. Reddit

For those interested in the park's natural wonders, the Cottonwood Trail is a must-visit. This trail leads to an exceptionally large and old Cottonwood tree, a majestic specimen that stands as a testament to the area's natural heritage. The sheer size of the tree is impressive, offering a unique photographic subject and a moment of awe for visitors. Reddit

Navigating the Trails and Terrain

Boone's Cave Park features a network of trails that cater to various fitness levels, though many involve significant elevation changes. The most prominent feature is the staircase system leading down to the Yadkin River and the cave area. These stairs can be numerous and steep, so visitors should wear appropriate footwear and be mindful of their physical condition. Reddit

Once at the river level, several walking trails meander along the banks. These trails offer beautiful views of the water and surrounding woodlands. While generally clean and wide, they can become muddy after periods of rain, and river levels can fluctuate, sometimes impacting accessibility. It's advisable to check recent conditions if you plan on extensive exploration along the river. Reddit

Beyond the river trails, the park offers other paths, including the Cottonwood Trail, which leads to a notable ancient tree. These trails provide a good opportunity for a moderate hike and a chance to experience the park's diverse flora. The combination of stairs and trails makes Boone's Cave Park a place where visitors can get a good workout while immersing themselves in nature. TikTokReddit
