What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the beautiful Gordons Pond Trail, especially the unique elevated boardwalk offering stunning wetland views and excellent bird-watching opportunities. While the trail is popular for biking and walking, some note that narrow sections and fast bikers require caution. The abundance of wildlife, including egrets and eagles, is a major draw, though summer crowds can be intense.
"Beautiful trail through some marshland. I really enjoyed the elevated boardwalk section over the wetlands. It seemed there there were a few places that would be good for bird watching if you’re into that. The trail was pretty narrow at some points with decently sharp curves. That, combined with the bikers moving at speed, would lead me to not recommend this path for dog walking."

"Terrific biking/walking trail along Gordon Pond. Great area for birding. Egrets and Blue Herons are plentiful plus keep on the lookout for Bald Eagles, we saw several. Crowds can get intense in summer. We prefer off season in Fall."
Christopher Younger
"Despite a cold wave well below freezing, I bundled up in a few layers and decided to check out Gordon's Pond Trail today with a Real Feel of 18 Degrees Fahrenheit.
Needless to say I was the only human on the Trail. I witnessed several small birds including a Northern Cardinal.
A grey Heron took flight within a few feet of me as if I wasn't a real concern. It just walked up to the edge of the Trail, spread open its wings and off it went as casual as could be.
To the dog owners who didn't clean up after their dogs, you trifling."

The smooth surface of the boardwalk makes it accessible for most visitors, including those with strollers or mobility aids, though it's important to note that the trail itself can be narrow in other sections. Photographers will find ample opportunities to capture the unique flora and fauna of the wetlands.
Wildlife Encounters: A Birdwatcher's Paradise
To make the most of your wildlife viewing experience, consider bringing binoculars. The best times for spotting birds are often during the early morning and late afternoon, when they are most active. The off-season, particularly Fall, is highly recommended by visitors for a more peaceful experience and increased chances of observing wildlife without the summer crowds. Even in colder weather, the trail offers opportunities for unique encounters, as one reviewer noted seeing a grey heron take flight just feet away.
Trail Dynamics: Biking vs. Walking
Reviewers suggest that while it's a beautiful path for a bike ride, the narrowness and curves mean dog walkers should exercise caution, especially during peak times. Keeping dogs on a leash and being aware of approaching cyclists is crucial for a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. The trail offers a good balance of natural beauty and recreational opportunity, but shared use requires mutual respect and awareness.
