Reviews Summary

The Ice at Park Place offers a charming evening skating experience with lovely lights, and the adjacent Thai food is a major draw. However, visitors often note the ice quality can be rough and puddly, and the rink gets very crowded, especially on weekends. It's best suited for casual skaters and families who can manage with limited beginner support.

"The ice rink is quite small and there were a few large puddles on the ice since it was a warmer day. I’d recommend bringing an extra set of clothes in case you fall and maybe choosing a time when less kids will be out and about with the ice skate trainers— I went Sunday afternoon and it was quite crowded. That said, the staff do a good job of helping people onto their feet promptly and the lights are lovely in the evening."

Ruthie Wu

"Would be 5 stars if the ice was better. It's always so rough. We come here because of the lights ice a year, but go to the indoor ones more."

Whitney Frizell

"I came here last year twice a week while it was open and loved it. The staff were helpful picking up people that fell and teaching people how to skate.(I was one of those people)
This year hasn't been nearly as enjoyable. Teenagers cutting around the ice pushing people over and just being a general nuisance for all the other skaters. I was pushed over and brought it up with the staff but it turns out the whole group of guys that are encouraging it are all the staff. Along with that I've watched/helped fallen skaters struggling to stand whilst they play. Whatever management change that has happened ruining this peaceful rink."

Navigating the Ice: Quality and Experience

The ice quality at The Ice at Park Place is a recurring point of discussion among visitors. While it serves its purpose for recreational skating, reviews frequently mention that the ice can be rough and prone to developing puddles, especially on warmer days. This can make for a less-than-ideal experience for those seeking a smooth, fast skate. Some visitors note that they prefer indoor rinks for consistently better ice conditions. Reddit

Despite the ice quality concerns, the staff generally receive positive mentions for their helpfulness, particularly in assisting beginners who fall. They are described as being prompt in helping people get back on their feet. However, there have been instances where supervision of rowdy teenagers has been questioned, leading to a less peaceful environment for other skaters. Reddit

For those new to skating, the rink's small size means it doesn't accommodate skating trainers or walkers, requiring parents to actively assist their children throughout the session. This, combined with the potential for rough ice and crowds, means managing expectations is key for a positive visit. Reddit

The Park Place Experience: Beyond the Rink

While The Ice at Park Place is the main draw, the surrounding Park Place environment offers additional amenities that enhance the visit. A significant highlight mentioned by visitors is the Thai food available on the shared patio adjacent to the ice rink. This culinary offering is frequently praised and considered a major pro for those visiting the rink, providing a delicious option for a post-skate meal or snack. Reddit

The evening ambiance created by the rink's lights is another aspect that draws visitors. Skating under the glow of the lights is described as a lovely and enchanting experience, adding a touch of magic to the activity. This makes it an attractive option for those looking for a festive or romantic outing. Reddit

However, it's important to note that the rink itself is described as small and can become very crowded, especially on weekend afternoons. This can limit the ability to gain speed and make the experience feel shoulder-to-shoulder. The lack of additional concessions directly at the rink means visitors will likely rely on the nearby Thai food or other Park Place establishments for refreshments. Reddit
