2.21.24 Lānaʻi - learn the name Keahiakawelo. I kept saying Garden of Gods and the locals would correct me. This is their pride. The prophet Kawelo during Kahekili Mo’i timeline saved the people of Lānaʻi from a curse placed upon them. It was a time when leaders took care of their people, no corruption. Even though Lānaʻi is one of the smallest island in the Hawaiian archipelago, the place is ...

Paradise was found….we captured so many beautiful sunsets on Lanai. God you are truly unbelievable! “Garden of the Gods” was incredible and one to see. The beach below is even more breathtaking to take 35 minutes from Garden of the Gods. Our last night was more beautiful than I can even caption at Puu Pehe “Sweetheart Rock.” One of Hawaii’s most enduring legends. Look it up and read the story, ...

Reviews Summary

Visitors are captivated by the otherworldly, Mars-like landscape of Keahiakawelo, often calling it a 'must-see' for its unique red earth and massive boulder formations. The panoramic views of surrounding islands are also a major highlight. While the journey requires a 4WD vehicle and can be bumpy, most agree the surreal beauty and sense of adventure make it well worth the effort.

"The road there is unpaved and a little bumpy at times. We drove in with a rented Jeep, didn’t need to use 4-wheel drive. Maybe a different story if the road was wet. The first ferry from Maui leaves at 6:30am. The last ferry back leave Lana’i at 5:50pm. Just barely enough time to see the cat sanctuary, garden of the gods, and shipwreck Beach. With breakfast and a quick hamburger on the way out. But not enough time to say very long at each location."

Dan Pruyn

"This place on Lanai is stunning. The "garden" itself is otherworldly, and the views of Maui and Molokai are absolutely amazing. Getting here is a trip in itself but worth it. A Jeep or other 4 wheel drive vehicle is recommended. They can be rented on the island."

Janie Goss

"Our guide said something to the effect that the Garden had been used either by NASA to simulate mars, or by a movie crew wanting to pretend they were on mars. Either way, the ground is a brilliant red/umber shade and could certainly be considered a mars-scape. One of the most stunning sights I encountered during my visit to Hawaii just for the brilliant colors and surreal nature of the environment. We were brought here in relative comfort in pretty sturdy vehicles."
